Ok I didnt realize it was that low. Alot of companies pay the same loaded and empty, except usually no FSC on empty miles.
Sharp exchange with a planner today.....

Give me the breakdown on how you will go broke running empty at .81 a mile....
-
My first thought is that since operating cost is at least $1.20/mile, you're already in the hole to the tune of $0.39/mile. Not to mention using HOS time that should be used on paid miles.

Fuel is about $.50 a mile MT (assuming 8 MPG/$4.00 a gallon) plus whatever you put in your maintaince account. If you run over 11,000 miles a month that's $.09 a mile (and MT miles count). We haven't even touched basic maintaince (oil, tires, ect).
My goal is to keep my MT miles around 7% for the week. I use 10% of loaded as a quick guide when looking at loads. I will take a load with excess MT miles if I want the load bad enough and I definitely use excess MT miles as a quick reason to turn down loads. -
On top of the fuel, add in the cost of your truck payment. You might end up with making.08/mi for your mt miles. Are you going to want to run lets say 200 mt for a 200 ldd mile run. The last time that I looked, I think that my time running 200 miles for about $16, well, for that I might just as well get outta the truck and work at Wendy's for $8.00/hr
otherhalftw Thanks this. -
This seems to be a thread that simply reminds me why I say a company driver, instead of going L/O.
