I always leave about an inch regardless if its loaded or empty. Loaded trailers that I back under that are lowered are much easier to crank I've found as well

Yes!! And when you leave that inch or so do NOT stow the handle! I've had countless times picking up a trl that was dropped high and with the load in it you have to fight the crank handle to unjam the gears.

    MTownZ Thanks this.

I remember a Budweiser load where I spent almost a half hour fidgeting with the #### handle because I couldn't get it out of high and into low gear and then it wouldn't turn into low. This was just so I could lower it enough to get my truck underneath without riding over the 5th wheel!

Holy crap. Never had a problem myself. From previous experience, if an owner opperator with tall rubber dropped a trailer, it would be high. Is there any difference in duals and super singles?

Air bags have leveling valve that adds more air when there is more weight to keep the frame level no matter what. At least if the trailer is a little low you can dump your bags and get under it. If its dropped high all you can do is crank and crank and crank away.

I would like to say THANK YOU to all that has helped me in this thread and others as well. The things that helped me decide more than anything is the input I got from you all.. If their office and training employees are as friendly as their drivers on here.. I will love working there!

I have read alot about Millis. Correct me if I'm wrong, but from what I have read.. Millis is really conserned about safety for the truck, cargo, and the drivers. In my mind, I could go with a company that would cut me loose a lot earlier in my own truck, but I want to learn SAFE operation of a CMV, not how to drive it around the block and back.... Millis seems to be the place I can do that.

I'm sure I will have a lot of questions in the future... so please overlook the stupidity I may show at times lol..
