you have 11hrs to drive, 14 for the day

you drive 1hr, you stop scale (to line 4) and then leave, how much time are you on line 4? 1min, 10min, 20min? either way, it has eaten up a part of your 14hr day, and also a part of your 70, no?

 

To scale your load on a Cat scale takes less than 7 minutes. You can be off-duty for that time.

 

I'd like to see THAT regulation !!

 

It's no wonder y'all need e-logs....

 

Please explain to me how when doing something that is "load responsibility" you can get out of being "on duty" (Line 4). think about it....you are driving to get on the scale, (and technically waiting in line to get on), the time on the scale itself, pull forward and get out to go inside to pay for and get your scale ticket, then once back in the truck, back to Line 3.

Unless you do it at 0200, when no one else is in line (either line, to get on the scale or inside at the counter), that scenario will take at least 20-30 minutes....sometimes a full hour at a very busy T/S.

 

If I'm at a truck stop the only time I'm on duty is for a pre trip, fueling, or post trip.

So scaling the load isn't part of your "on duty" issues? I guess some T/S have valet scaling...so you can go inside and BS with the others...right?

I'll go on-duty for about 3 or 4 mins to scale a load. That amount of time is not going to destroy my income.

 

Nope, but when I'm at a truck atop and not pre/post tripping or fueling I'm off duty. Plus scaling a load would take less than three minutes anyway. Course the last time I scaled a load was in June.

It only takes me 15 mins on line 4 to scale truck, get ticket, slide tandems and drive off. Scale ticket gets put in trip envelope but on log book so I can get paid for it instead of eating $10. Works fine for me. If I don't want to get paid back for the scale, then I don't bother logging it
