Graduated from Transport Training Centres of Canada on Sept 21 2012 Sudbury ON location. Passed my AZ MTO test with flying colors. I have a clean drivers abstract and CVOR. Just received my passport and applied online for my FAST Card. Now looking for a job. I have applied to several job postings on the job bank and some local company's too.

Where should someone with my limited experience apply to?

Well I would try out an outfit who will take you on driving a daycab doing P&D (pickup n delivery). You will gain alot of valuable experience doing this. Any idiot can go out and steer a truck down a 4 lane highway...but the skills come in when you get to the other end and you are dealing with traffic, congestion, construction and tight spaces. I wish you luck in your new venture...

Anywhere. Walk in and have all your gear with you. Be ready to road test 5 minutes later. Be prepared to knock on door after door. I handed our 30 some resume's before I got a yes. Just. Do. It.

Oh yeah, If you pass your road test, BE READY FOR DISPATCH IMMEDIATELY! Have all your personal life sorted out beforehand. Nothing is worse than a guy saying he can't do a run until next week. YOU make the sacrifices when someone gives you a shot, not the other way around. Good luck in your search and read through these forums on how some of us new guys did it.

If you are thinking to work long haul and across the border,i strongly sugest to look for team driving job with an experienced driver for minimum 1-2 months. Learn to do paperwork, hours of duty/log, maps truck routes, low bridges, backing in narrow places, driving in winter time, mountains.

I agree about the skills needed at the other end for the reasons you mentioned.
I don't agree with the idea that it takes no skill to be out on a highway. People discount highway driving but when you consider weather (black ice, reduced visibility, hills, chaining ++); night driving (animals, fatigue); dangerous goods routes, restrictions and:

...there's so much to all of it. Highway hypnosis happens to drivers often. Takes a special type of person to be alert for all those long distances.

Team is a great idea. P&D is a great idea.
Transforce companies advertise all the time out east, also there is Manitoulin (ok, I'm biased about them, I love it there), Sysco...
    Good luck and Congratulations!!

I filled out an online application for Pro North. Emailed Day a few times already.
As for Mckevitt, my sister got hired 2 months ago with them. I have emailed Tim Ashley numerous times. Sent him all my information, resume CVOR etc.. but still haven't received any response from him. My sister will speak with him next time she is in Thunderbay delivering a load to their yard.

In the mean time, I have received my Canadian passport and just applied online for my FAST card. I hope these will help peek some interest from employers.

Sometimes better if you go into a place. Karri Huntington is the person at Day to speak with. Maybe they aren't taking newly licensed drivers though.

Finally if all else fails STG 2000 will prob hire ya providing you don't mind going to Brampton!! Get some miles under your belt at the very least. http://www.sgt2000.com/Default.aspx Website has nice petes but the trucks I always have seen are old #### spreaders. lol

Already emailed Karri Huntington over at Day but thanks for the tip.
I was also in touch with SGT 2000 a month ago. They told me i needed my passport and FAST Card before they can proceed with my application. I just received my passport and applied for my FAST Card. Have to wait for an interview to pick up the card now.
SGT 2000 also is holding a job fair on Nov 27th at Transport Training Centres of Canada here in Sudbury. I'll be attending that aswell unless i land employment.

I did get an interview today. A smaller local business was looking for a DZ driver. Will see if they call me back.
    I'm slowly getting prepared!
