You got that right. And it's not going to get any better as long as the bean counters who work for Big Money are running the country.

I agree with you. Its everywhere you go. The other day I was picking up balloons for my kid's birthday party and I was trying to get out the door with them and this laday behind me not only did not offer to hold the door or help me, but she huffed and puffed the whole time I was struggling. Then when I finally got out the door she pushed her way past me as I held the door open for her, and of course she didnt say excuse me or thank you. Miserable witch.

we are no longer a people of struggle, dedication and comradarie, but of instant gratification, self-absorption, comfort-loving people who will spend more time following NASCAR than the Patriot Act or NDAA. As long as its fun, we are all for it.

I dont need another truck driver, so i can drive as a please, he can go scratch
I dont need to be courteous, unless its my job requirement or i can get something out of that person
I MUST FOLLOW company policy, or i will be fired and i wont be able to buy the next Iphone.
As long as i can Twitter, Google, Facebook, dance, party, drink and get high and laid, that is all life is for me

none of this is new, our grandparents were fussed at by their parents for listening to Elvis, we fuss about Snoop Dogg, its a spiraling effect of comfort and technology that has made us all spoiled, lazy and FAT (I read one of the signatures, "Why is it the poorest people in America are the fattest?")

We dont want to work hard (like the Mexicans) but we want good pay. When we do work hard, we get little in return. While we see Wall Streeters making OBSCENE amounts of money. We see our politicians screw us over. We see our corporations screw us over. After a while, we just dont give a flying fig about anything or anyone

They say If You Go Looking For Trouble, You Will Find It. Same here, if you're looking to find bad habits, manners etc. you will. There is enough of it.

I still find a whole lot of courteous and friendly drivers though.

Society has definitely become more self absorbed but personally I don't find it as bad as posts here would suggest.

I imagine back in the day truckers were looking out for each other. But now I blame alot of the lack of respect towards other truckers on the rules and regs, trucking companies, thousands upon thousands of laws pertaining only to the truckers. So yes many truckers have awhole lot of animosity.I don't know if it's so much targeted towards other truckers persay but people in general.I don't know about the rest of you but to me trucking is a job whether it's local or OTR.It's a job other truckers love to hate. There's not awhole lot of happy truckers out here and truckers that get no respect by other truckers is just at the wrong place at the wrong time.

I pull open deck and it seems to me that there is a lot more open deck drivers that are willing to help then van. When I have to go some where that is a "normal" van dock to get loaded it seems like other guys don't want to help you out with the information that is needed. But in the same sense when i go to a steel mill or something of the sort there is more people that are willing to help then not. Just my experience so far. Seems like though that there are more "older," and i say that in a good way, drivers in the open deck industry. There is getting to be more and more new drivers in it but i am willing to help until you give me the attitude that you don't need help then its screw you.
