I just recieved my aporoval from Landstar and am very excited to get started. It took just about a week to get my paperwork approved,it might have been faster but I have had to do everything from the road. I have my short list of trucks to choose from and the money is in place so everything looks good for orientation in Reno,NV. Hoping to have everything done so I can get thru orientatation before the Thanksgiving holiday.
I have spent alot of time looking thru this forum and have found some very helpful information. I do have a few questions for you current and former BCO's. I have been on electronic logs for 19 years, the last two I have been useing the qualcomm mcp200. I have grown very comfortable with the qualcomm and was wondering what your advice would be as far as the choice of plans available. I do not have a stand alone GPS but I do have my ipad and a laptop. I was thinking about going with the mcp200 and adding the navigo and wifi.
The wifi offers 500mb for 11.95 per month. Does anyone know how good the coverage is on the wifi and what the charges are for going over the 500mb. For my ipad I pay verizon 50.00 per month for 5000mb which I almost always use. Im not sure if the ipad will work as well as my lap tap will when it ones to working with the load board. Im thinking it might be better to go with a mobile hotspot so I can use everything.
For navigation the navigo is a nice feature but I think the ROI is better on a stand alone GPS. Anyone have any thoughts on which way to go for navigation? Its funny I made it 18 years without a GPS,of course I was in a line haul operation and knew where everything was. Having navigo for 15 months really spoiled me, I like having the GPS available.
I have really done my home work before making this move. I think my very successful career as a company driver combined with a good understanding of freight lanes and logistics will help me to be a very successful BCO. Thanks in advance for any help.
Just approved.

What about upgrading your phone on Verizon with one that is a hot spot?? also congrats. I think if you got a phone like that , then you wouldnt need the service for the ipad too..??? I am not too sure but just throwing it out there

Thanks for the tip, there are so many issues with the little machines. My phone is ATT,my ipad is verizon. Verizon 3G rocks and I will be looking to continue with them as my primary data carrier. There are very few places where I cant pull in a decent 3G signal. Iam still trying to dig up some information on the wifi that comes as an option with the qualcomm. If I could use qualcomm wifi for my laptop and only use it for the load board and other work related business I think 500MB a month would be enough.
Does anyone know if its even possible to work with the load board off an ipad? -
Congratulations, will you be pulling a flat or a step?
We have been looking at different solutions and the data off of all the in cab solutions, including the unit LS has, are junk. Being that phone and data access is going to be vital to being able to make a living, bite the bullet, cancel the ATT phone and get a Verizon 4G phone. Make sure it is one that allows internet and phone calls at the same time (personally love my SIII).
LSBroker works OK on iPad but much better on computer. Never used the board you will use on my iPad just use it on computer. -
Going to probably go with your advice on the verizon 4G phone. For me the ability to communicate clearly at all times is going to be essential if I want to be successful. Thanks for the tip. -
Again, best of luck to you. And stay active here. Would love to here how it is going. And feel free to email or call me. I work with several LS drivers helping them increase profits. -
