I have a 1998 Volvo 610 with a Detroit 11.1 in it.There are 2 small wire comeing off the battery terminal That I believe go to the ECM.Both of these wires are fused with 10 amp fuses. They are both drawing alot of power when the truck is shut down.If I don't disconnect the wires from the battery when I shut down the truck the batteries will be dead in a few hours.Any ideas what could be causing this?

We have always had 2 power supply wires to DDEC. One for each bank of injectors. There will always be a very small draw (mili-amp) but if this is running your batteries down in a couple of hours, I would have to believe you have something else in the truck causing that. You can pull the two fuse's out to kill the ECM and see what draw you stilll have on the system.

Will it hurt anything to put a switch on these 2 wires. If it was a serious short wouldn't that blow the fuses?

Just pull the fuses and see what the draw is. The fuses will blow if the draw exceeds their capacity. But, I believe you have something else contributing here. I have worked with this system for 30 years.

make sure you don't have a short it out battery check for a hot battery or an egg smell.a short it out battery will make your battery's drain fast

When I pull the fuses there is no draw on the batteries.
