Im interested in a generator that charges truck batteries and maintains there charge. If it can auto start/stop when the batteries are at a min/max charge. Any one have any ideas of what might be a good brand or where I can get more information on them?
Thanks in advance.

They call them a "battery tender". Use this in your search.

Depends on the charger, are you looking for a mobile type or stationary charge?

Well im not allowed to have an inverter in my truk because the trade in value is not as high after you drill holes in the floor. So instead I got permission to mount with clamps a genorator to my catwalk and run a cord into my truck. So I want to setup about 6 batteries and a genorater in a secure box on my truck with my 2000 watt inverter and run a power cord in through my side door. I would like the genorater to auto start/stop when the batteries are low or full so it doesnt run all the time.

I do not know of anything you could use like that, most generators are manual start.

what's wrong with the 4 batteries you have.
trucks usually have an alarm when the batteries get low. at least every truck i've been in.
just fire the truck up.
if your gonna mount a generator that you need 2000 watts. then just use the generator for your power needs. then you won't have to worry about the batteries.
i pack a battery charger and i have a small 800 watt generator i bought on sale from harbor freight. just in case i need to jump my truck in the winter. but i don't have anything electrical to worry about other then my laptop and cell phone charger. plus a clock. -
some RVs have systems like that. I'd check with an RV dealer or Camping World store.

A cheap 1000w, or even less, portable generator and a portable battery charger from your auto parts store is the easiest, most cost effective way to do it. If you owned the truck, the options get a lot better. Not sure about your company, but most will allow an inverter/charger if you let them do the work in hooking it up so they make sure it is done correctly. Then all you would have to worry about is a small portable generator you could stick in the side box and pull out when you need it and plug it up on an extension cord to the inverter/charger. The charger will shut off flow to batteries when they are charged and prevent over doing it.
Every truck I have had, I put on an inverter/charger. This one and my last one, I put a weather sealed Xantrex inverter/charger right into the battery box along side the batteries. You can hit it with a high pressure washer and will not affect it. But they are not the cheapest units you could buy, for sure.DoneYourWay Thanks this. -
I got my inverter from May and yes they installed it but I moved to Knight who pays way way better but they dont alow installed inverters.
I want to reduse the maintanance on the genorater as much as posible by only having it run long enought to charge the batteries instead of running for hours on end.
I like to play games instead of watching tv but I dont have $2000 to spend on a laptop that will support my habbit. So instead ill just spend around $600 setting up a system that will run my home gamming computer with minumal maintanace
