You will have to pay Sprint since the phone was in your name. I feel for you, my daughter ran her's up $500 two months in a row and I had to pay. Phone gone after that. Daughter was living with ex at the time.
Seriously... Credit checking, prior to employment?

SS# for a cell phone, credit check for car insurance, now credit check to work?
this is leading to a direction that we may never recover from
soon there will be a card that makes you an "approved" citizen, otherwise you will be of the underclass, undesirable
you will not be able to buy, or sell or eat without government approval (a good FICA score) -
There are a lot of people who previously had impeccable credit have had their credit ruined during the last 4 years. Hundreds of thousands have lost their homes. Illness can take a toll on your finances and destroy credit. Any company who would put much credence in a person's credit after the financial collapse is not worth considering. If you think that bankruptcy or the destruction of your credit can't happen to you, you need to think again. If you have a poor economy and illness in the family, you could easily lose everything you own and have your credit destroyed. Things do happen that are beyond your control. I would not be too quick to judge others for what has happened to them. You might be surprised at how quickly things can change.

First off I declared Bankruptcy this year as well. So please I have walked and is walking in those shoes and my credit has been a disaster since my divorce 3 years ago and no company has ever rejected me because of it. I can't even rent a car with my credit. Please read the whole paragraph before you pick and choose what you want to pick a part

Our release forms say that we "might" check your credit, but we don't actually check it. It is there for several reasons, customers might want the drivers to meet certain criteria, insurance companies want drivers to meet certain criteria, and some companies feel that if you have certain types of bad debt, that you lack decision making skills. I have had to submit to credit checks for all kinds of jobs. Most of them will tell you what types of debt they look at on your credit history. Medical bills do not hurt your score as bad as people think they do.

OK, first off, let me say that I've had my share of credit problems in the past. (With two ex-wives, who wouldn't.)
But I have no problem with an employer who runs a pre-hire credit check. The way an individual handles his or her own personal finances will tell you a lot about them, as a person, and as a potential employee. One bankruptcy is not nearly as bad as say several repos, garnishments and the like.
The companies that do the credit checks are looking more for a "repeat pattern" of being unstable or unable to handle your personal business. And they know what the current economy is like.
The person who declared bankruptcy within the past few months is a lot more employable than the person who has had repeated wage garnishments over the past twenty years. No matter how you feel about, it is the way it is.
And everyone who has money problems has "extenuating circumstances." But the guy who is willing to say, "hey, I screwed up, but I'm working on it," is in much better shape than the one that is saying, "But it isn't MY FAULT." Even if it really ISN'T their fault.
