my opinion on this is if that is all you were getting than you were doing something wrong. I,m not driving anymore due to my own stupidity but when i was i had no problem getting enough miles. i got to customers the night before if i had early mornign deliveries, didn't waste time hanging out in terminals or t/s. there are plenty of "grey areas" when driving a truck you need to learn how to use them to your advantage. One example i can think of was i was at a mclanes and they kept me like 7 hours. of course i slept most of that then got a little more rest after i got p/w and then i was good to go another day. anytime it took more than 3 hours to get loaded or unloaded i was sleeping. also i rarely took more than 10 hours off. occasionally i had one of those loads with a lot of time on it that couldn't be tcalled for whatever reason but do everythign i could to try to get a restart out of those. bottom line, if you are not getting upwards of 2000 miles with shaffer/crete then i believe it's something you are doing wrong and you probably won't be successful at whatever company you go to. just my thoughts and as far as peoeple always whining about the northeast, yes CT traffic sucks but there are ways around NYC. i never went the way the company said which was usually the CBE i always either did the tappan zee bridge or if i had the time 84 to 81.. i had a few times where i would get a load out of the NE and then one right back to it. Yes it's annoying but then i'd end up with a load to ME and then get one of those paper loads out of skowhegan that was always over 1000 miles. also as far as CT i would figure my trip out so i wasn't going through during daytime hours.

So , popping on a pee test may be harder now than it was in 95. @franktaylor , find a smaller not so complete company that will maybe not check , or find someone to give you a credible work reference for that time. Ya got to do 2 things here , get back behind the wheel and stop the Drinking , no B>S> bud. I stood in your shoes once . Do AA meetings if ya can't stop drinking , it all starts there . For people that are dead set against drugs they only have the drinking issues , even if it's excessive it's legal. Unless it interferes with their lives. Guys that like the pot or any other drug , they'll never stop if they don't give that alcohol up too. This from a guy thats 16yrs sober 16 without the pot and 11 yrs cigarette free also. As for Shaffer I'm set up for orientation 12-3 Lenoir TN. I've got a boat load of experience in dry and reefer. I hope it's good.

    franktaylor Thanks this.

i'm back out on the road now congrats on the sobriety. i'm doing really well after hitting rock bottom last year. I still kick myself when i see shaffer / crete trucks everyday. Usually when i'm passing them now lol. I make less per mile than i did with shaffer but i get more consistent miles with the smaller company. i really liked shaffer while with them. I would hear guys complaining all the time about not getting miles and i never had that problem. Granted there were some lighter weeks but it always balanced out monthly and i got the 10k or 9600, whatever we were supposed to get. Just for kicks nowadays i talk with crete guys in truck stops and it seems to be the same as when i was there. The guys who have been with them for many years just say it's not like it used to be but i think that's the business as a whole. i know i would have made $50k without a problem. The company i'm with now found me from an ad i placed on craigslist, i put it all out there and didn't lie about anything. As a matter of fact the owner of the company said how surprised he was when i told him i got drunk and did some coke, he said no one ever admits to it. Usually ahve some kind of story about supplements they are taking or something. I did it so i'm not going to lie about it. THey made it clear that there will be randoms which i'm ok with now. overall getting fired from shaffer was just what i needed to figure out what i was doing wrong in life. My incident happened during my hometime, i'm home now but i'm spending it with family not going to hang out in nashville where i know i could get in trouble. thanks for the words though. as far as shaffer goes, you'll have times wehre they really piss ya off with short runs with a lot of time or bouncing in and out of NE but i still say they were a great company. My biggest compalint with them is obviosly the zero tolerance. i got a letter once the test came back about going through the SAP program and it almost sounds like they will hire you back once you do all that but that's not the case. But i do remember signing the zero tolerance thing in orientation so i knew better. once i have this in the past a few years i may try to go back to them but from what i heard they probably wont' hire me back due to teh test. As for now i'll continure getting more experience with the smaller company. I do , btw, love working for a smaller company. the no qualcomm thing just feels good out there. I don't run illegally or anything but it's a good feeling knowing someones not sitting in an office seeing if i'm idling the truck or driving overspeed downa hill lol good luck with them. Lenoir City is wehre i parked my truck when i drover for them, although my home terminal was marietta. Did my drug test there in LC.

Who are you driving for now ? I was with Elite expess Pennsauken NJ they hired me in knowing I was p'oed about breakdowns, 7 in 7 weeks without a dime for the time involved. Was told when pursuing a little something for the 7th that , it wasn't gonna happen and there's the door if I didn't like it.
As they put me in a 2013 to lure me in , I had it bumped up so it would run , not gonna say how or what it would run at. No Q-com , 40cpm practical miles , and ran to California from NJ after the 2nd week with them. Loved it , policy was match your fuels stops , they didn't care about tolls or even pre pass. Then they dropped the bomb , they hired in a team and didn't have anything but a 630k mile 07 intl an old Tanker yankin truck to put them in "had 1 bunk" , so as I was comin in to the yard I was told to move all my stuff into that which wasn't big enough to hold what I carried in a 2013 Cascadia , they said it's the only thing they had. I said I'll get a one way rental and call it a day. They said really , I said yup. That was that. Looking at Shaffer , and would not do anything but home every 6 cause of their inverter policy , 400w max is just a joke if you're otr in their truck. I've been looking for a smaller outfit that'll help ya be a little more self efficient out there. Who you with?
