You have to realize, the deck is stacked against us as employees. There probably isn't another industry in the US which treats it's employees as badly as trucking does to drivers.

THE DAY some dispatcher told me I was using the loss of a family member to avoid work....I'd deliver their truck alright! Right through a ground floor window of the main terminal! Family is far more important than any load! You don't see your ####### dispatcher coming to work after a loss of family, do ya? Of course not! But they expect the drivers to forget they even have families in the pursuit of the dispatchers next big bonus!

Most heartless industry in the country sometimes...and that's saying quite a bit in a nation that treats the people who handle our food as little better than second-class citizens, ya?

You are a better trucker than me. I would have parked the truck, got on an airplane and took care of my family. Tell dispatch the load won't get delivered on time but I will be back for the truck after the funeral. If they want to call that abandonment so be it, but I would be back for the truck to deliver the load late if it hasn't been covered.

You guys have all worked for some crappy companies. In my experience when a family member dies the company I was with (Roehl) offered to fly people home, or we'd make arrangements to team to the drivers home if they didn't want to pay back the cost of the flight. I know one of my drivers dropped his loaded trailer in AR at some random truckstop after a death in the family and bobtailed to WI to take care of business with reprecussions. Not all companies are bad, find a better one and do it quickly..

When my Oldest Brother died, C.R. England didn't let me go to his funeral either. I feel your pain and I hate C.R.England for their heartlessness.
