Don't see them as being legal...drivers logs are considered a "legal document".....I would think there would have to be a paper trail.

I just searched on my app store and didn't find anything. Do you know of an app already out there? I think this is a GREAT question!!!!1 If your company has them or would allow them and the INFORMATION that is require is on them they might hold up, but not sure about how the e-logs work when its a do it yourself type thing. I know a friend at landstar runs the daily logs on his laptop and because of landstar on his door he said they never ask to see the laptop. I bet an app would be great, but maybe it would be room to abuse somehow? lots of techy nerds working wonders with phones these days. + I wouldnt want DOT getting myphone now that I think of it. Show them your log book, then they'll wanna see emails/txt's to make sure your not using it in while driving. I think it would be a great idea, and a horrible one too! Curious to know if one is avail, would love to mess around with it if there is one!

There is no legal requirement as to the "device" (paper or any electronic device) you record your log to as long as the required info in the required format is met.

they are legal but recognized by what companies is the question. My company accepts them. The DOT requires that you have the ability to print them out when requested too.
