I think it's 19 with a full G license for at least 2 years here in Canada. Not sure about the US of A.

That's what the law says, but good luck finding a company that will hire you before age 23-25 for insurance reasons

In the USA it is 21 for tractor trailer, your close to 18 go get your CDL to drive straight trucks then when you turn 21 you can switch if you want.

I pulled tankers and farm bed trailers at 19, as long as you can pass the test for combination vehicles you can drive them.

This the most accurate answer so far. There is a difference between what it legal and what is practical. In legal terms you can get the license pretty young. But in practical terms, you're looking at 23 before you'll be able to do much with it unless you want to work for a farmer.

My advice would be to wait until you're 23 before you worry about getting the license. In the mean time, find a college and take some business courses. If you're going to make a career out of trucking, chances are you'll either end up owning a truck or two, or working your way up to management sooner or later. Having some business education will be an advantage.

Also in the meantime, and this cannot be stressed enough, don't do anything that could even remotely end up resulting in a felony charge and most definitely do not get into any motor vehicle after you've consumed any amount of alcohol. Those things won't automatically be show stoppers, but they will definitely limit your options for quite a few years.

I got my Class 1 at 18 and drove for an owner operator. To cross state line you have to be 21. I ran across 1 state line and never was ask or was stopped to be ask my age.

If your family owns a trucking company, you can get your licence at 16. Now remember, this was back in the day.

I got my license at 19 and managed to drive local until I was 21. Then 2008 happened and I went OTR. Been doing it ever since.

If you have farmers around your area you could haul grain to the .. wherever they haul it to. There is lots of that going on around where I live. I believe the pay is about $16-$18 per hour. They are home every night. Some of them will work you into the ground if you let them. I have never done that type of work but I know people that are doing it.
