The short answer is that it depends on the company. Personally, I would opt for solo.
Drew352 Thanks this. -
I agree on it depending on the operation. I'm thinking either team or trainer which is essentially a team. The team benefits from two experience drivers but may have down time waiting for loads while the trainer has an inexperienced driver with him/her but gets all the miles, gets paid extra to train and generally is kept moving much better.
I'll be interested in hearing from people in the two different jobs.
Me, I'm not interested in having anyone in the truck with me no matter how good the money is and have turned down being a trainer on numerous occasions. -
I've never run a team only solo but if you do decide to run team pick someone who has good hygiene other wise you may kick yourself in the rear afterwards.
-
LOL..I cant even imagine running team with someone who has bad hygiene..I feel for those that are stuck with someone who does.
-
Just remember: everytime your co-driver breathes out you breathe in(or close to it),plus you're putting your life in someones else's hands when you climb up in the bunk.
Sure the money can be better, but your sharing the profits.
As for training,I wouldn't even bother..most newbies coming have the wrong idea of trucking(not all),plus you have to deal with them not knowing anything other than what their school taught them(if anything).
Solo is king! -
Team made me the most money however it was the most dispatcher dependant. The whole point of team is to keep it rolling and very few get that or are able to do that. But when it works it works. I never took a rookie out, any team I speak of was two vets looking to generate cash.
In one example the dispatcher was abusing us by starting us on a milk run before we departed for the coast.....well how is the 2nd driver supposed to rest? He can't but he still has to be ready at shift change.......and this went on for 2 weeks. On the second trip in we took a look at the IT for the next turn and there it was, 4 local drops before heading out.......naw, went straight to the T.O.M. and put the quietas on that AND picked up a minimum 4500 mile a week hub guarantee to boot. Broke that dispatcher from his bad habit real quick.
IMO it's team but you pay a hefty price sharing a very small piece of real estate. You have to be on the same page and the money has to be there.....and it usually isn't in common carrier ops. I don't think I would do it again...... maybe if there were gobs of cash, dunno. Need to see the whole picture.
( Would like to try a hot swap again, like 2 sticks I'd like to know if I still got it ) -
so would you say if everything is just right theres more money in team as opposed to solo? im talking for each driver btw
-
Assuming you are asking specifically about US Xpress, since you posted this in the USX section, the answer is yes. You will make more running team than solo. Training is very similar to team pay, maybe slightly less.

thanks vinsanity..thats what i was lookin for..so team pays more per driver, how bout team l/p?..does US Express do something like that and is it worth it?
