I have begun studying from the CDL booklet and scheduled my physical examination with my local hospital and explained to them the purpose for the exam being to fulfill the requirement to obtain a CDL permit and she said it would be $56 which is right in the range of what the school charges roughly to my understanding. She asked if I wanted a urine test done? I told her that this would be required on site and it would not be necessary. Is there any need or benefit in getting a urine test done here in Indiana while getting the DOT physical is my question? I'm thinking it will not be used and be a waste of money. I don't think they even charge for the urine test in Missouri do they?

So far, I know I need $100 for the entry fee and the other $50 will not be needed assuming my physical taken here in Indiana meets all specs necessary under PRIME requirements.

wrong. Your physical in Indiana will not apply.

you can pay for one in IN, but you will still be getting a physical with Prime's doctor.

    Backwater13 Thanks this.

Found out from my recruiter that whichever physician gives me the examination needs to be CDL certified. Both the hospital physician and the MEC physician (the physician referred to me by the employee at the local BMV) are not CDL certified at this time and have no plans to do so until next year, when they become "required by law" to do so, according to them. Both establishments informed me that they "Do not need to be certified until next year" according to their understanding. I told them that that may be the case by statue or law or their internal policy, but carriers want certified physicians doing DOT physicals to be certified presently. So I'm hunting other sources to get the DOT physical done in my area by a certified CDL physician.

I don't know what the Prime recruiter is telling you, all pre employment physicals are done on site at the Campus Inn by Dr Abraham and his Orion clinic contracted by Prime.

After employment they only accept physicals done by Orion and Concentra clinics for DOT med card renewals.

Thank you Chuck for correcting me. I was under the impression that I needed to have a physical done in Indiana in order to submit the physical paperwork, along with test results from the BMV to the state for processing and final approval of my CDL learners permit. Is it true I can get a CDL learners permit in Indiana without a physical? My goal is to get to orientation with the permit in hand.

Chucktaylor is correct. You will receive a physical from prime and that's what they will go by.you may also have to take a sleep apnea test, depending on your weight and,or neck size.

My sister has sleep apnea. Knowing how much the test and machine cost her, the cost of getting one there and possibly getting a machine will be a big plus if I need one. If one is assigned to me, that will be just fine. I'm going to go ahead and factor in the reimbursement cost into my estimated budget. I'm going to run down the numbers on here again. I know I've read them but did not write them down at the time.
