My brother hauls cars. Yesterday his winch bar slide out of one of the ratchets . He lost his balance and fell face first down between the lower decks. Hit head first into one of the axles. 23 stitches and a broken nose. Does not have to be a car hauler! Everyone please be safe, we all have a dangerous job! Want us all to be able to go home safe for holidays ! Best of luck !

I worked with a guy who was tightening the ratchet on a flatbed. Bar slipped out, smacked him right in the forehead!

He was OK, until he found out if you got hurt at work, you could go home for the day, with pay. Then suddenly, he had headaches, dizzy, etc.....

I drove a dry van, once while trying to crank down a jammed set of landing gear, the crank handle got away from me smacked me in the face, knocked me out cold. Luckily someone found me lying on the ground and called 911, kept me overnight to check for a concussion. This happened just before sunset Saturday in a 3 day weeekend. If that guy hadnt found me, no telling how long I would have laid there. be careful!

that's one reason I don't do tankers or flatbeds. fell off a flat when the bracing under the pipes broke and me and the load went flying.:biggrin_25521: no real injuries, but makes ya think.

climbing up on the curved top of a wet or ice covered tanker to vent the lids is also not for this old fart anymore.lol

I slipped washing the salt off the windows on my truck. I wish it was something like "tightening chains on my supersize heavy load", but no. It was over in Beloit, WI at the Pilot. There was ice on my step I never saw. I slipped, twisted my knee and landed on the ground, my head hitting the pump. And I lay there for a good 15 minutes. It's winter time at a pilot truckstop and I'm laying on the ground and nobody even offered to help. I found out I sprained my MCL. That sucked.

I dont really understand this thread. Of course danger;and yes death is around us-ALL OF US- from a newborn one minute old to someone 110 years old every minute of every hour of every single day we are alive. I could give many examples from the drunk and doped up driver to the gun wielding maniac to just plain accidents such as happened to the O.P.'s brother; but nah you should get the idea.

This is not paranoid but realistic. My advice is to be a friend to your friends, and too tell the people you love just that. Don't ask me how I know.
