If I paid you $2 a mile, and only gave you 100 miles a week, would you be happy? You'd have plenty of time to sit around the truck stops, bragging about how much you made per mile, but no money to buy lunch.

The bottom line with any trucking job is how much you actually make per week, balanced against how hard you had to work for it, and how the company treats you, and any benefits they give you.

I made about 8 cents a mile less at my previous job, (Out of business) but I had a truck that would run the speed limit, got 3000 miles a week, plus a lot of drops, and had 3x as much home time. Overall, I worked a little harder, made the same as I do now, but had a much nicer life.

So what? I get forty something now.....hardly have any home time....and struggle to get 2200 miles a week..and the #### company treats me like a machine. I'd rather the previous company was still around and I didn't have to deal with these jerks.

Jack B. Kelley in Theodore is a pretty good bet. They pay well and treat people very well. If think they also have a variety of types of runs, local, weekly or OTR, whichever you prefer.

Started at 25 cpm OTR, 3 years later was up to 38 cpm OTR. Now at LTL gig making 64 cpm. I would never go OTR again.

I am on the extra board so I run wild. Some weeks 1200, other weeks 2800. But I do get hourly for all non driving activites so I'm rarely under 1000 gross weekly even if I only run 1200 miles due to all the hourly pay.
