Yes you have to have hazmat and tanker endorsements. I tried to do orientation while i was waiting for my background check but they wouldn't go for it. Hazmat is probably 40-50% of loads. It's not any big deal really. The tanker is because we sometimes haul tube trailers for air products and some other places. Again, no big deal.

My husband was hired by NC last June as a local driver. They didn't mention when they hired him that his start time would not be in the morning! They don't pay overtime and expected him to work 12 to 14 hours a day. The equipment is in horrible condition. That's all I will say about that.
Then a month ago, out of the blue, they called a meeting and said that the work was slow, and cut hours. My husband worked on average of 2 days a week since then.
At the same time, ads appeared from NC looking for owner/operators. And so they are replacing drivers with oo's who can maintain their own trucks.
I hope he finds some other work soon. He did say that this type of trucking is the hardest that he has ever done; trying to get into small delivery and pick up areas, driving a different truck every day, mastering the Qualcomm and not knowing how long your day will be because you are dispatched as you complete each stop. He has a high respect now for you guys who do freight.

You all are not looking big pic. Now I know this reply is to a post before I hired in in Sept 2010.
I also walked after no pay for time involved with 7 brkdwns in 7 wks. in late sept 2012.
Just sick and tired of attending to company equipment problems without compensation. What sent me packing is Gary's attitude when I asked for 6 hrs hrly pay for the 7th brkdwn , which by the way, was 6hrs of my time on a day in which I was in the midst of a 34h restart.
Basically in short he said nope no breakdown pay , never have never will if you don't like it there's the door. He could have approached it with a little compassion to the fact that I didn't mention a thing to him til the 5th in 5 wks. @wks later I was in front of him and boy did he not give a darn. So inspite of having a 60.000 pr yr job and home a couple weekend a month I chose the door.
Mushroom's at home , and I don't have to ask where she got with pursuing layover pay of 150.00 per day while at home cause I know Gary , I know his attitude with me and it would be worse had I come to him with home time layover requests. Now I've been down Mushroom's road not only with NCT but Jevic also. The big pic is I made 60.000 pr yr with these 2 co's. and got more home time than needed , still making 60.000k. I would make sure at the end of the 1st day of phone sitting , dispatch knew the 2nd day I'll only baby sit that phone til noon and after that the next day will be another day. I made them understand that I'm not phone sitting 8 hrs a day while at home without compensation to do so . And ya know what they understood , never having one of any of them question that. They knew my point was as valid as they come. So , I would tell them at noon doday I'll talk to ya 0900 and at noon tomorrow we'll be having the same conversation. We had a saying a Jevic that held true at nCT also , If you can make 60.00k falling out of bed while with these companies there something wrong with "YOU". No b>S> LTL though may require more of your daily attention. You have to succeed even when set up to fail. Get the load and start calling customers after 0900 on the travel day . Know today that stop 2 can be stop 1 cause they'll move frt to get to theirs and they open at 0600 stop 2 is 0700 both have 0800 appt's and allows you to now make you 2 0900 appt's. Thisis how you use your travel day to dial in a 400m 9 or 10 stop day on day 2.
I once in 2007 ran 400m and 10 stops in 10.5 hrs just missing stop 11 by 45min otherwise I'd have emptied same day. Now do the math 51cpm rgnl for Jevic out of Cinci , and 10stops 15.00 per.
Harry is no longer in the pic in 2012heading into 2013 , he's fL retired and collecting on his 48 or 49%. That's it this company is owned by Jefferies investments , and has been for sale for almost 2 yrs but no one is interested in buying it with drivers still making what they make. So Guys like myself hit the door and walk away from 45.6cpm . The truck is now driven by a new hire 40cpm or less. When those higher paid drivers continue to walk , the % of lower pd driver increases making them more attractive by the month. Eventually Gordon trucking or some other lower payying outfit will pick them up or Harry's history will repeat itself. I know I won't be part of another Harry co falling to a chapter 13 , I'm no longer there.

They keep all the newer stuff for teams and solo's are hand me downs , any time a nct team has to wait 10 , 12 13 , hrs to deliver , nct screws a solo to ensure you can continue to run , and you quit ? Hmmm find it better elsewhere or find out that you're not gonna. Nct will commit suicide in attemting to cater to teams , yet teams still quit. I dunno , I can't see the logic of you not just staying the road with them.

LOL... yep Jevic and Nct will be history repeating itself if they're not sold in the next yr or 2 bet on it. I knew Jevic was goin down and wasn't willing to endure a 20k per yr pay cut to jump ship , so I went down with it.

Wrong , tanker endorsements are require now in order to haul IBC's that sit on the floor and require un#'s ," hello" better study that hazmat you'll be needing it at nct. The air product account you won"t touch , trust me if you're not aware of that new law , the Air Products will be done by their favorite booty-smoochers , you not it. Not yet anyhow.

When I left nct I received my last paycheck via direct deposit as usual. Did you have any outstanding advances? A lot of guys get those automatic advances and forget about them. Nct seems to be a sinking ship these days. I would recommend everyone still there to watch Harrys kids. When they jump ship you know its over! Im running for fedex ground these days and am happy. I do miss a few things about nct but I surely don't miss all of the east coast!

I was curious about New Century, seems like theyre mileage pay is pretty reasonable for tugging around a dry van...I havent read very much good on here about them...
