We run fontaine steel steps and wilson combo's and for me personally i would stay on a wilson all day long. If your going to go with an aluminum then i would definaltly get the chain holds in the floor and get them every 2 feet if you can afford to. Are new ones have that, havent gotten the luxury to pull one yet, but i know i use the hell out of them on the older ones even though they are about every 4 feet.
Wanna get into flatbedding

Man I really appreciate all the wisdom you have imparted upon me this evening. I'll be checking back in with you if I have any more questions. Be safe.

No problem we are all here to help each other.

In addition to the above, the thicker chains are heavier and takes more out of you to drag them from one end of the truck to the other.
Lunchbox7159 Thanks this. -
Absolutely. Unless youre pulling a heavyhaul trailer, with the stronger tiedown points, 1/2 " chain will offer no advantage. I pull both types of trailers, and I do run 1/2 chain, depending on the commodity hauled. I also went with the 3/8-1/2" ratchets with the foldown handles with the 13000lb WLL because they will work with my 3/8 chain and 1/2", and I dont have to have two sets of binders for two sets of chains. Gotta save weight somehow. I am 35000lb with a stepdeck.
