Just out of curiosity, I wonder how many of you are trainers or ever have been trainers? That's just the way the industry works. That's the only monetary compensation the trainer gets is being able to drive as a team. Of course I would get satisfaction in knowing I passed a driver who I know will be safe and contribute in a positive way to the trucking community.
JMHO, ya'all -
Just who is going to come up with industry standard training? We've already seen that the FMCSA can't do it. They put out a token attempt some time ago and it did not include any hands on, just classroom.
I wold love to see a study on drivers who went through the training program with say the top 5 student training truck companies. You know, Werner, Schneider, Swift, ect. I would like to see where they are say one year after training and two years after training. Better yet, I would like to see what their accident rate is. Then, maybe you could get a clearer picture on which companies have a good training program. -
This is just lame idiotic dribble by people that probably don't give a #### about their fellow driver and the state of our industry. The ones that bad mouth other companies either have never worked for them or got canned for being unsafe.
I'm sure a lot of you are veterans so you can identify with this. You didn't choose the unit you were assigned to but you did your best to fit in, did your job, and tried to help make your unit the best out there.
But in this industry, we have choices so if you make a bad choice, you only have yourself to blame. This is not a one size fits all. Just remember this; PSP, Pre-Employment Screening Program is your employment record along with your DAC report. That will make or break you and that dream job you've been looking for. You want a good report card, do well out there. -
Guess what leggs there are a few good drivers for WEENER. the secret is they don't know what the new WEENER is and that you become what the company is you drive for or Get stranded 1,000+ miles from home with a falce DAC report I almost made it Got stranded in Phoenix and didn't know I hit them Imaginary parked cars.
Did you know that wasn't a DOT recordable and DAC required me to prove it never happened. How?
my advice now to all or any who will listen get your 6months in then jump seats fast
b4 you get WEENERized.

You can pay for your CDL training for yourself but the only way you will get hired by a trucking company is you either go through their OTR training program or you have 1 to 2 years OTR experience. With the training companies, you will have to get between 150 and 275 hours behind the wheel with a trainer on board before you are cleared to solo in your own truck. Of course you can go to Stevens with just your learners permits and they will take you through the rest to get your CDL then you go out with a trainer then go out in the dumb and dumber phase with another new driver. You may be one of the lucky ones and know someone with a small fleet that will take you under their wing. Bottom line is no one will let you loose in their truck until you have had OTR training with a trainer and meet their standards. The upside to most of these companies that will hire you as a CDL school graduate is that they normally will have a tuition reimbursement program.RizenPhoenix said: ↑Pay for it yourself then find a smaller outfit that will hire you. How many stories are on this site alone about driver wannabes going to school and THEN looking for either local work or smaller companies? The success of that rate is about the success rate of the brand new driver failing at some of the the cookie cutter companies.. but at cookie cutter outfits, the driver is not sitting at home letting their very basic skill sets deteriorate to nothing while those who go the route of the majority are doing something that further their skills or tells them that the industry is nothing like they dreamed it would be or as they saw it on "Movin On" or "Smokey and the Bandit". The team training theory sucks.. but it IS what the vast majorty of people who HIRE drivers out of training do.RizenPhoenix said: ↑Pay for it yourself then find a smaller outfit that will hire you.
