If you lived near Dallas, TX, Preferred more home time to making tons of money, Owned a 55 lb dog with no one to care for her in your absense without begging a family
member and probably still being told no, had no money whatsoever and were getting desperate, already had a CDL and valid passport but no miles under your belt,
did not want to drive northeast lanes and very little mountains and wanted ONLY solo company, no teams, no lease.. Which of these would you pick?
I'm ok with spending a year or so with a starter company before getting a cherry gig, however some of these starter companies are so bad people rarely make it past a couple months. My father drove for swift and quit after three months, and this is a man that worked in harsh factory conditions his entire life with out any complaints.
12 months is a long time. I just dont want to get out there with 5 grand being held over my head and find out I chose the wrong company when I had a better choice.
*USA trucking* People seem to have a decent opinion of them, people often suggest starting off here in this forum. I'm scheduled to start with them in a week.
*US Xpress* Allows pets, supposedly high pay.
*Wel Companies* Allows pets, per diem.
*Southern Freight* No northeast lanes, OTR regional.
Any opinions advice welcome.
Before you say Roehl is the best I know that, and have applied but I dont think they are hiring out of Texas.
Noob, requesting company comparison.

Out of those 4 I would go with WEL.

I think USA has a no pet policy.
Out of the 4, I would chose US XpressMarky84 Thanks this. -
It's not as if you'll find anyone of these noticibly better than Swift or any other starter...if that's your thinking. The first year is going to be brutal and frustrating regardless...expect it.

In my years of driving i have found that one person can be happy at a company while another is miserable, given same trucks routes, fleet mgrs..... i have met 2 people that thought Werner was best place ever- i looked them over, they were not stoned,or bleeding from the head.... Same with Swift, Stevens and few others...
i really can't tell you a preference of those 4, only that i'd recommend going with a reefer company over dry van. But that's me and you might be a Flatbedder and don't know it yet.... -
Roehl is hiring in TX. They built a new terminal in Dallas.

they werent bleeding from the head...rofl. i agree with cuzzin, tho...one person's "great company" is another's "worst company in the history of man". i can only speak of usa truck out of the ones you listed... and i can tell you i did almost NO northwest mountains, but did at least my share of the northeast. and when i graduated trucking school i had 3 guaranteed job choices. usa truck, roehl, and pam. usa truck paid the best thats where i went, and i didnt regret it cept maybe a day here and there. think it was more a regret of the choice to be a truck driver on those days than with which company i chose. like the day i tried to use the goethals bridge to go to long island and ended up in brooklyn because a sign said all vehicles over 12'9" take next exit...UGH. i can say that a VERY good friend of mine said youd have to be brain damaged to go work for stevens...but again i have no experience with them personally. i trust his judgment enough that i WOULD need to be bleeding from the head to work for them, but couldnt with authority tell others not to. i also font know anything of usa truck EXCEPT otr. if ur looking at regional, i have nbo idea what to expect for miles. i did really well with them, but i was otr, i stayed out 5 weeks average at a time, averaged 2800-2900 miles per week, was on paper logs (sometimes got a bit "creative") governed at 63, had many weeks where i drove over 4000 miles...used reset often. miles are at LEAST as important as cpm they pay you, and usa gave me usually all i could handle.
Rains83 and silenteagle Thank this. -
If your looking at USA Trucking you might wanna read this ..http://thecitywire.com/node/23395

A little out of date. USA got a new credit line releasing them from the $300,000 penalty. Now what happens in the future us anyone's guess
