Absolutely not!

Car carriers aren't designed for that much weight in such a short w/b span. How would you load it?

 

Ok, this post is full of mysteries......How long, tall, wide, and heavy, is this Lift? Is it crated? Does it have to be Tarped? Is it going to be dock loaded? Fork lift loaded? This is a problem with brokers and "LTL" loads or pieces, most don't have a clue.........BTW this lift could be a "scissor lift" that can be side loaded and only take up 3 feet, $350 doesn't sound too bad for 3 ft? But is the risk worth the reward? In this case no

 

Someone posted a while back that he won't load an LTL shipment for less than $1k. I think that's a good target. One could check with a strictly LTL carrier to see what their rate would be, then deduct 15%. I'm willing to bet that he'd be paying YRC or SAIA $1K or more to ship it, plus the cost of the crate and de-fueling it so that it's non-hazmat.

 

I don't understand? Move a chain? And you know the broker game, Boston to Chicago is most likely Worcester, MA to Elmhurst, IL or something

 

For you, it was not worth your time. For many other who are ALREADY in Boston and already going TO chicago, it's just a little gravy on a truck-load move already. As Cluck stated, it all depends on size, weight and tarps. Just because you were looking at it as a TL move doesn't mean they are wrong or off base at all on the rate. If I were in Boston and going to the Chicago area I would pick it up. Why would you not want an extra $350 of free money????

 

Exactly, as long as it doesn't take 3 hrs to load, who cares.......and 1/2 the trailer then who cares

 

That reminds me of some car haulers mentality. Say they have a 7 car trailer and the going rate on thier route is $500 per car. TheY get 6 cars paying $500 and have one empty space left. They find another car paying $300 going on the same route. Thier mentality is I'm already headed in this direction so that's just $300 more in my pocket that I wouldn't of made anyways. What they have just done is lowered the going rate to $300 in that brokers mind. I've heard it come out of several brokers and dealers mouths before.

 

You would have a $3500 repair bill because you put that $350 forklift on there.

 

That's about 1k miles.. I still wouldn't move that load if they did pay fuel..
