In Bc Sk Ab and Mb if a us guy took a 10 foot 2 inch spread axle like we run in the Us or ontario and put an axle in between the spread how much weight could we carry back on the trailer? I would call it a tridem then or do I need some special axle spacing? I miss a lot of loads into and out of western Canada because I can not haul the weight, I think 20500 pounds is all I can carry on my spread but as a tandem it is about 37800 or close to that, so would the three axles help or hurt me?

You are able to have an axle weight of 24,000kg or almost 53,000 pounds. The spacing limit for a tridem axle is 3.7m or around 12 feet so your spread should fit if you added an axle in the middle. Tandem axle weights are 17,000kg or 37,500 pounds. Most people tend to buy trailers with tridem axles to allow more flexibity in what they can haul.
Having said that I would suggest that you speak with MOT to verify all of this. On the surface I would say go for it but double check to make sure they will accept the modification and everything. -
the axle spacing from center of front axle to center of rear axle would be 10 foot 2 inches so I should be ok with three axles and a spacing of 10-2 is that correct or 61 inches between all three axles center to center. What is MOT?

Wouldn't it be cheaper to trade that deck in on a tridem. A lot less headaches than trying to get spacing just right. Maybe with a lift axle. Just thinking.

Mine is paid for I do not like payments and could do this for 2500dollars or so

61 between the axles is perfect. If you can do it for $2500. however, go into the business, you'll make a lot more than trucking doing that.

I would also recommend getting a new trailer but if you can get it done for $2500 that seems like a pretty good deal to me. Just make sure it is money well spent. You don't want to save 500 bucks and have them rush and not align the axle properly. It is a huge suck on fuel economy. Probably the biggest reason lift axles save mileage is because you dont have two or three sets of tires trying to pull the trailer in a slightly different direction.
MOT is the ministry of transportion. Its the equivalent of DOT. Up in Canada everything is a ministry rather than a department. -
How much extra weight would the extra axle add to your trailer? You would still be maximum for 80,000 gross for the USA, right? Would it be a better idea to have one of your axles sliding instead? Being from PA you can't "interstate" in Canada anyway, so I don't see any benefit as to the maximum weight carried when you are criss crossing the border for each load anyway.
-
You kinda of missed my point. The loads I miss are the 32 to48000 lb. loads because with my spread western canada will only let me carry 20500lb on the trailer axles.A sliding front axle would be the right thing for me to have or just move my front axle back and have a fixed tandem, but that could mess me up on some loads in the USA.Like I said earlier I don't want any payments at least not 60 of them.At the present time used trailers 10 years old are only a couple thousand dollars less than new ones from what I have seen.
-
You can carry more in the US as long as you're on State Highways. ND allows you 48,000 lbs. on a tri.
$2500. though???? Hell, you have 2000. of tires along. How do you install an axle for $500.00 ???????????????????
