Companies are hiring right now if you have experience or get lucky. The reason everybody says wait till January is the new budgets come out for the oil companies. This year I think our south Texas yard is starting up another fleet which means they'll need 60-75 guys quickly at the beginning of the year.

I'm a 33yo truck driver in Kentucky. I have four years total experience, two years dry van OTR and two years of hazmat tanker experience with a local compa hauling corrosives and alcohol blends.
My child support payments have increased to $950 a month and my $17/hr 40 hour a week job isn't cutting it anymore. There are no local companies here that would give me the kind of income I'm looking for and there's no way I'd go back to the OTR game.
From past experience I know it's easier to get your foot in the door when you know someone on the inside. Could one of you drivers that's set up down there give me a lead? I was just going to load up my SUV and drive out there but with all the housing trouble I've read about on these boards I see that isn't such a great idea.
Also, I'm asking because much of the info I've seen is outdated and it'd really help to get in touch with someone that has the current info.

JMullins, with your experience I believe that you could get on with Plains Marketing. I've been driving for over ten years and have never made more money nor been happier than with Plains. Daytime drivers are averaging about $80,000 a year and night drivers make a 30% differential...you do the math!
Plains Marketing is a GREAT company that will be around for a long time. There are only a few locations where we are hiring right now and it can be VERY difficult to get hired on. However, if you would like to contact me, I will give you some advice. Not to mention, I'll get paid a referral bonus! Trust me, Plains is a difficult company to get hired on with but it may just be the best decision you've ever made!
If any other drivers are interested, feel free to contact me as well. Please have at least TWO years of tanker experience, a clean record, the willingness to relocate, work hard and make A LOT of $$$$$$
