If I could give you more than one thanks for this I would...just ain't no accounting for some people and their all-encompassing hatred for others.

I am looking for recent graduates from ATDS that have been hired onto position related to oil field work in the Permian or Eagle Ford Shale areas? If you're whiling to tell me about your experiences it would be greatly appreciated. I am due to retire from the U.S. Army soon and trying to come to a decision if going to ATDS and pursuing this route is a practical option.

Schneider has entered to slash latest and ruin a lucrative business for the companies that have been doing this for years. The same way they did in the freight hauling business. They have no oil field experience and need to stay in the freight hauling business where they belong. If you think $1100 a week is good that's 1/2 what we used to make $80,000 to $100,000 a year was average thanks Schneider. As you can tell I'm not a big fan of Schneider,Swift,JB Hunt or any other Company that comes in and cuts the income I've grown used to. I can only hope they crash and burn and go back to hauling that cheap dry freight they're qualified well half way qualified to haul. NOT A FAN GET OUT

Dead on Hollywood Tom. These rats always show up and try to skim the cream off the top. They're learning it's a lot harder in oil patch. Been run off of quite a few jobs. But there are those that will always go with the rats who show them the cut rates. Just got word we have to do pre-load that the Rat Boys had but couldn't handle. Have to work until 24th. PU load and head home. Head out again 26 early. East TX job. We don't do that much out there but good customer got in bind with Schneider so we will go. And my 25% will be $1.08 a mile as usual. May be different in liquid side. Sand side they have gotten in over their pointy nose heads.

As I reported months ago, Schneider lost a huge contract tanking condensate out of Cuero, TX. They cut from about 185 drivers to 95 drivers and I was able to stay. Then a couple of weeks later they cut down to 55 and I was let go. Last I heard they have about 15 drivers running out of Cuero.
I could see the writing on the wall and had begun networking so when the call came to let me go I already had an opportunity waiting for me in OK. That's the great thing about having a CDL, the work is there if you want it so I was out of a truck all of 7 days. Been up here for almost 3 months tanking crude. Been as far East as Cushing, OK as far West as Wheeler, TX, up to the Kansas state line and down into Texas below the OK state line so I've seen a lot of ground in my short time. I was living out of a hotel for the first couple of months so I didn't post here but now I have my own place so I will be around the forum more often.
By the way, OK has been great. I really like the people and the topography of the state is very beautiful. For some reason I always thought of OK as flat but it has its little mountains, hills, and mesas so I have enjoyed driving around and seeing the different areas. Lots of windmills here and I'm still trying to get use to the wind but otherwise I've had some great times in OK City. It's fairly vibrant and easy to find something to do. Especially enjoy going over for a night to do some drinking and catch some live music.
As far as work here in OK, it's easy to get if you ask me. There is a shale here getting attention not to mention the other zones that have been drilled for decades. I see Cactus rigs and fracking crews all over. The cost of living in my area here is a lot lower than Victoria, TX. I was getting raped down there for $1450/month on a house got one here in Weatherford, OK that just had a $10K upgrade and only paying $950/month.
Good to see some familiar names still posting. Hope all is going well! -
Welcome to capitalism, guys. Which industry still exists where corporations haven't eventually outbid the smaller companies? That's life. Just hope that enough clients don't find the cut-rate prices worth it to deal with corporate ########.
I've actually heard offhand that Schneider has hired / been looking to hire another couple dozen drivers in Victoria. Sounds like they found another small account. And I've seen orange pumpkin frac sand trucks running back and forth as well. Dunno if that means they're going to start having a presence again. -
Rockdoctor, when you had to sleep in hotels for first couple months, did you have to pay the normal hotel costs? Isn't it expensive? Or did truck companies pay for it?

$1.08 isn't bad right now my part is $.95. I wish they would get up there again, but once you give it away it's hard to get back. Although work it's starting to pick up again doing more work in Oklahoma and West Texas. Was in Colorado a month ago won't go back there until they can make it worth my while. Figure the truck has to make $8,000 a week minimum to be there. Don't see that right now. On the bright side am preloaded for El Reno 10am on the 26th. Don't have to worry about the phone ringing at 3am to go somewhere. It's not hard to get in over their head when they don't a clue. That was evident when the bought day cabs. Native tried that and wound up going to sleepers. Guess the only way to send them packing is do a better job shouldn't be hard. Merry Christmas will probably be working New Years.
