    Howdy all,

i've currently running around with a little over 6months of over the road experience. I went to swift and got started there and spent 6 months with that company including thier school. So i only drove about 5 months for them. I quit back in 2005 due to no miles no money and no home time. I walked away from driveing in september of 05 but this last year my wife and i got a divorce and i needed to get away so i got back into a truck for Roehl. I really liked that company until they routed me a wrong street and i got hung up on a cable wire. They dead headed me from Kc Mo to Gary,In i knew they were gonna fire me becuse i had to have the fire department come out and raise up the wire so i can back up out of the road. Anyways i get to Gary and they told me becuse i hadnt reported it when it happened they were releaseing me and i was non rehirable. I called the accident department as soon as it happened BUT and i am gonna say this loud BECUSE i didn't get names of the ppl i was in contact with i got canned. I had to ride a bus home and i figured i'd never get back in one agian. Now i have no choice no jobs here and i am looking to go to work for FFE atm. I am pretty much asking for any advice in getting in my own truck. My brothers and uncles have been driving truck for well over 25 years togeather and it has always been something i was intrested in. So any advice as far as the kind of truck i should get into and who i should lease to would be well appricated. So ty in advance.

    First of all:
According to Federal Regulations (don't ask me which one or how I know about it), all power-lines, phone and cable wires HAVE to hang no less than 14 feet above any public road at it's lowest spot, so if you hung up on a cable/wire that was lower, it is the fault/responsibility of the utility. (Electric/Phone/Cable)

    Second of all:
If you used a CELL PHONE, you will have the TIME record of the phone call(s) you made when you hung up on the cable. I assume the first call was to THEM and they instructed you who to call. If they put this information in your DAC (that you didn't call them immediately) you can DISPUTE their records with USIS and provide USIS with copies of your phone bills as proof. USIS MUST remove false information. And TELL THEM (Roehl) that if they disclose this FALSE information that you WILL file a lawsuit against them. They MAY think twice about including this information in your employee file or divulging it to future employers.

Never know unless you call and ask. Every phone call leaves a record. You just might have to dig deeper.

I'd go ask your uncles, etc., about it. Do they live in your area? If so, they'd have a good idea what's going on in that area.

If you want to get your own truck, go visit a LOT of truck stops and talk to owner operators (O/O). Pick their brains. Check out the lease purchase options with companies but be VERY careful - most are NOT a good idea but maybe some are.

Get as much info as you can because being an O/O is NOT that simple and most state you should drive for about five years before you even consider it.

Your best source of information would be other O/Os out there.

Also try to dispute that Roehl claim. Maybe even hire a lawyer who will send them a letter that may make them think twice about putting anything on your record. Just a letter from a lawyer sometimes works wonders (having him state about the cell phone and the low wire and that ROEHL ROUTED YOU THAT WAY, etc)

You never know until you try. Don't give up so easily. Your DAC can ruin your career, from what I hear.

trucking is either in your blood or it's not. after reading your story i kind of have a feeling it may not be for you. sounds like your wanting to do it because there is nothing else available to you and not because you want to drive and miss the open road. my advice to you would be , find a career you want to do and stick with it. on your buying a truck, i ill advise that. that would be one debt that may never end.
