Why?
Do you think a gay cannot be a good truckdriver? -
I'm still trying to convince family members that I'm not straight because of the good 'ol stereotype that gay people are skinny as a rail, girly, talk with a lisp, love pink, fly rainbow flags, and try to turn every man I see gay. Maybe I need to stop fixing cars, hunting, shooting firearms at the range and shave my face before people will accept the fact that I won't marry a woman.

You don't like pink????

Oh my god..........the world has really ended yesterday,a gay man who doesn't love pink!!!

The Mayans were right!

This whole thread has me thinking. What if things were switched around.............What if straight men would be better off acting as stereotypical flamboyant as possible so they would not draw attention to themselves? What if they had to fit in and not be able to mention their loving wives for fear of getting fired, or left on the road during training? What if during conversation with someone for the first time they asked basic questions , such as are you partnered ? Do you have a husband? Are you Straight? When did you know you were heterosexual? How long? .................What If you were told, as a trainer I would be OK to train a straight, just as long as he does not try to force it on me. I don't want to hear about it, just keep it to yourself.

Gay or straight doesn't matter. What happens in the bedroom needs to stay in the bedroom, and people who discriminate because of sexual orientation are beyond ignorant. So what if you're Christian. The bible teaches you to hate the sin, and not the sinner. The bible also teaches you to not judge anyone and to follow the laws of the government. So in essense, using Christian morale to discriminate against homosexuality is a oxy-moron. You are no better in the eyes of God than the homosexual person(s) you're discriminating against. That being said, I would like to get more updates from the OP.

The only update I can give is that upon going through orientation with Swift, I met with the training administrator and asked her specifically if she had any employees who were gay, bi, lesbian, and/or transgendered. She replied that yes she does, but whether or not they're open is a different story. I then asked her how many trainers does she know of, and asked me if I am gay. I said "yes, I am, and would feel better to be with a GLBT trainer, but wouldn't mind being with a hetersexual person. She thanked me for my honesty and applauded me for coming out to her, because that (to her) shows great respect and trusting qualities in an individual. She told me that one lesbian trainer comes to mind, and she will do everything in her power to pair me with her. Well, as my luck came, I DID get paired with the lady in question, but the flip side is that she is stuck in a repair shop and it wont be looked at until Monday. Later on, I asked one of the other women in the office about how far apart can two people live before they cannot team together due to distance, and her first question was "Are you referring to your man? Honey, don't worry about it, we encourage couples to drive no matter if it's male-female, female-female, male-male, something else with something else. Pennsylvania may not recognize GLBT folks, but we do here at Swift. You're safe here; welcome home!"
On the last day of orientation, we all in the classroom were ribbing on one guy who had been paired with a female very shortly after watching a sexual harassment video where a female trainer called herself "Blowfish". I said "Dude, you're not the only one with a female trainer, but the only difference is that my lady trainer likes ladies!" The instructor responded with "Ohh, so both of you are gonna be looking for the same thing!" I replied "Nuh-uh... we are not. She's looking at the females but I'm certainly not." Took him a second or two before realizing what I meant... class started laughing.
To conclude... I feel very comfortable so far at Swift, and hung out at the terminal most of the day getting my classes done on the Kiosk before having to do them later. Nobody spoke about their wives, nobody started a dirty conversation about the woman walking down the street, on TV, etc. It was just like a normal day at work without the horned up personalities. Very tranquil I guess.daf105paccar, dawnio, notezbngrn71 and 1 other person Thank this.
