What kind of gear are the hams running in the trucks?
I am debating putting the Kenwood 570 back in the truck.

It depends on what band you are wanting to operate in. Hams have chunks of the VHF and UHF public service bands where public safety and businesses are. We have repeater towers and use FM 2-way radios similar to what the police use. I have a Yaesu FT-7900R for the 144 mhz and 440 mhz bands. I also have a nice used Motorola Spectra business band radio that also covers 144 mhz. For operating in the lower shortwave bands, where we talk all over the world using mostly SSB, radios like the Yaesu FT-857D are popular.

I run a Yaesu FT-7900R in my personal truck.

I am running an icom 706mkiig and a tarheel screwdriver antenna
-
How do you like the tarheel?
-
I really like it it makes band switching so much better than having to stop and change anything out
-
I'm curious as to how you have that Tarheel mounted...
-
I will try to get. Pic for you

I would like to see that as well, i can usually touch my tuning w the AT in the Kenwood 570, so i just carry a few Hamsticks

I have a Kenwood TS-480SAT I want to install in the truck. I have some hamsticks I could run for 20 and 40 M, just haven't installed it all just yet.
In the end, I want to put the Tarheel screwdriver in eventually. The cost of that is really what's holding me up.
