Hey guys I have a 07 freightliner columbia with c15 acert nxs its has 472000 miles on it, It has been perfect till I went to start it up today Morning. It had a tough time cranking over, when it started it idle real rough and there was black smoke coming out the exhaust like there was no tomorrow, and there are black flakes of some kind coming out the exhuast. I'm in jersey city, nj and there is a shop about a mile away from me should I drive it there or have it towed. What do you guys think is wrong with it turbos, injectors, etc..?

Could be a number of things but i would lean toward injectors or some kind of fuel issue if it had trouble starting.. I would not drive it. Best to have it towed or have them come to you and ceck it out.

Sounds like a real cold start to me. I'm guessing you've had it long enough to experience a cold start though?

If you have had a cold start with it before it could be low fuel psi on startup hence the rough running and hard start

Had this happen to me one time with a pete c15 accert. Also an 07 model. I got the same suggestion to shut it down and have it towed. Being as it was a co truck and I was only 2 mls from the receiver I ignored that advice and drove to receiver. It ran rough, smoked like a frieght train and had no power for a mile then cleared up as if nothing had happened. Never had the problem again.

You can drive it, i would not. A buddy of mine drove his when running rough and blowing black smoke and messed the motor up bad. Cost him $3 grand to fix it. f he had it towed would have cost him a 3rd of what it did.

Thx guys I will have it towed, wed morning to freightliner. It sucks I have to spend xmas in the truck but thank god I have an apu or I would be freezing. Another thing I found is when I went to drain the davo filter it had a lot of pressure, fuel came out super fast usually it comes out slow

I'm also leaning towards a injector, the thing that gets me is that there was no warning of any kind we had just drove 1800 miles from denver started on 21st and stoped in jersey on the 22nd.Its a team truck we always run 60mph always light on the throttle. And when we went to start it in the 23 had this problem.
