No, not a trucker, yet. I am pretty sure I am going with Stevens transport. I got a class b a while back. Went to Roadmaster in Columbus. Intention was to get a class A but things changed. I got frustrated with myself while at Roadmaster and didnt think big rig was for me. I gave up too easy.. I could go to Swift or Roehl but Stevens has a school in St. Louis that they partner with that charges $2800 for school. I am going to get my class A regardless of what happens and I think Stevens is best for me cost wise plus they move a lot of freight into Ohio so I can get home from time to time. I have heard that Stevens has very thorough training.

If that is what your getting now..Do you think it will get BETTER if hired by them? I have never worked for those "bigger companies" but it seems to me they set you up for things worse yet to come. I.E.- They bait you to beg, which may be good practice for what your in for.

Again. I have never worked for any of "those." And since here (ON THE FORUM) I thank Gawd everyday...

I was thinking about stevens too but i dont think they would take me with my driving record. I got 3 in 3 years but i like there trucks though lol. My father went to road master when they was off of brice rd by that $1 movie place(15 years ago) i would go up there and watch, they was pretty cool for that. If all goes well ima be starting school at tri-C in cleveland ohio of february 4th. If werner or or usx or super service or navajo dont take me ima try transam and do that 90 day lease try out or whatever(got to do more research so i dont get screwed) since i plan becoming a owner op anyway and my wife makes enough to support the house and kids so i figure ill give it a shot if all else fails. Good luck to you and stay safe in that snow down there. Its bad in cleveland

They don't care if you beg or not. Bottom line is they don't care.

Yes, it is a preview what your in for. Try having a flat tire while parked at an authorized place to get repairs. Then play phone tag with road break down for over 3-5 hours while being on hold for 45-90 minutes at a time, talk to several different people in road break down, and after all that finally realize what you been telling them, which is your already at an authorized place (TA truck stop, etc). /facepalm

With so many people out of work, and looking to become truck drivers, what motivation do the big carriers have to treat you right? So you give up, there are many more take your place in this bad economy. Several years exp with a good CSA2010 score is your only leverage, until then bite the bullet, and get your exp in.

    Good luck!

Still new to the forum, can you point to one of these trucker job boards? I am about to start school hopefully mid-January, and then start as a company driver. Or at least that's the plan :biggrin_25525:

Sorry, did not include the quote in my previous post. timd1978 mentioned "trucker job boards" in the first page of the thread.
