Well it has finally come out with the increase in accidents of trucks that electronic logs are to blame .Thanks to a bunch of air heads that have never worked for a living paper pushers we see the results that any one with common since already knew but as always when they get a foot in the door you can kiss common since out.Oh yea next if you dont know if your physical card expires so does you CDL with a fee of 250.00 to get them back current how about that for revenue increase.and you will be required to go to government doctor for your test so now they will have full access to your medical history

So, tell me how having e-logs is causing an increase of accidents? My BS meter maxed out when I read this. The ONLY advantage of paper (vs e-logs) is the ability to cheat. I run e-logs and like them. I routinely see trucks pull into a truck stop (after I do) yet are gone before my 10 hour break is up. How is that possible unless they are taking the 8-hour porton of a split sleeper berth (which honestly most driver are clueless as to how it works) OR THEY'RE CHEATING!
As for your CDL expiring when your physical does....SO WHAT! How hard is it to keep track of that information? My home state mails me a reminder as does the company I'm leased to. If you're TOO STUPID to keep track of simple things like this you NEED to have you CDL canceled and get to start from scratch.
I spent 32 years in the aviation field and had to get a physical YEARLY! There are no so called government doctors (outside of the military), just doctors who meet the government agency requirement to issue a medical card. Compared to aviation getting a CDL medical is a joke.Last edited: Dec 27, 2012

got any PROOF? i dont think elogs increase accidents cuz last time i heard our ACCIDENTS are down compared when it was all paper logs. Drivers made us go to paper logs cuz they was GREEDY!. they didnt know when to take a break and had alot of accidents due to being tired. yes elogs prob would of happen sooner or later but they just speed it up with the accidents.

I'm gonna be a new driver this upcoming New Year and I won't go to a company that doesn't do e-logs. I have found them to be very convenient my little time in the industry. Especially if it's gonna keep me safe.

new one for me lol. i didn't realize e-logs controlled the truck. thought it just controlled your h.o.s. learn something new everyday.
ok...i'll quit being so sarcastic lol

i ran e-logs the last two years before i retired didnt like them too much. worked for a semi private carrier and we did not sit around. so not to bad for me, but if you are sitting around they could be a real problem. one thing about trucking they have the ability to get the job done some way some how, and can adapt to anything the government can dream up. b safe out there

I've never seen an e log before but I would imagine it would add another distraction to the driver since it's an electronic device. I remember when I worked for a company that uses those Qualcomm thingamajig's. That thing always distracted my sorry ###. Always beeping. I hear todays Qualcomms won't let the driver send messages or read it while in motion. That must be the reason I see all of those green horns parked on the side of the 70+mph highway. I used to think they were broke down until I realized it's always a new truck and the same companies.

I have been using e-log for a couple of years now, and cannot see how they would be a distraction to the driver. It doesn't do anything but sit there are record. At the last hour, it lets you know you have 1 hr, then 30 minutes, then 15 minutes left. I am using a Qualcomm MCP200 and as for the messages, I can just hit a couple of buttons and the gal in the machine reads the message to me while I am still moving. If it a message that needs a response quickly, I use the hands free and give the folks back at the office a call. If I will be stopping soon, I will wait and then answer it or read it. I do like the GPS mapping in the qualcomm. Not perfect and you have to make sure it is routing correctly, but it shows the road in front of you and how a exit looks and let's me know how many miles I am away from destination. And it also shows me the fuel stops and their pricing along my route so I can keep cost down a little.
I think I will keep using it.
Oh, something else, it has all those neat games like pinball, solitaire and such that are on a typical Windows based computer. Neat distraction while sitting at a customer. And it has the ability to scan paperwork and send it via transflo.
All of that for $10 a week total cost for everything is not a bad deal. -
I dont use e-logs and wont until mandated which ofcourse that is coming soon as well.
For those that use e-logs- quick question? Does it list the driver operating the truck? Sort of like a profile? How do teams work that out or if someone was put in your truck during your home time and then you are back in it but now you are over the 70 hrs?
Thanks
