We need to look at this more like Cowpie1 is. If, indeed, they do get mandated and forced upon everyone, then those that are able to still make an acceptable amount of money compared to other industries, then it will work. If the sky falls down and people actually do end up wasting away in truck stops and making any money, then how long do you think that driver will continue down that road? I would be willing to bet he will change to another industry altogether. If it doesn't make financial sense, then people won't do it. Simple, really.

Also, those little mishaps, say a 4 hour delay sitting waiting for an accident to be cleaned up, will no longer be able to be "eliminated". If this ends up pushing deliveries back, possibly to the next day, that means service will suffer too. Anyone else see the mega carriers going very heavily into teams?

I do not like the idea of a computer telling me what to do either, it is a little too invasive, but at the same time I realize if it is mandated my options are to either accept it and learn the new ways of trucking, or if that proves impossible then I guess I'll just have to do something else.

Note: It would be nice if they put something in place that really f***** up the system so bad that it caused mass panic. Would wake up everyone as to what we are actually doing out here.

making teams wont solve the problem, they'll be dispatched as a team. Then when the delay comes up they'll still fail on the load. What you'll see in cases like that are more relays. People will need to monitor drivers progress and proactively shut drivers down to ensure loads deliver on time. This will result in lower miles. Of course you could always go with option B and notify the customer of a delay beyond the drivers control.

Thats the whole point to E-logs. More control over drivers while pushing them to work twice as hard as a paper guy and pay them less for it. Overall its horrible what the industry is coming too.

They just want all drivers to be tickled pink to make 40k a year, to me thats a joke and not worth my time to get out of bed, yet I hear drivers just THRILLED to take home 40k a year and be away from their families for weeks at a time to do it aswell...

It all depends upon your company and how things work. I've been with 3 different companies and they all have different opinions on what is the best way to do things. Most of them are closed minded and aren't willing to adapt to new situations/regulations. Some think that more and more technology on the trucks is the solution. There are no quick fixes. Most of the "safety" problems that a company have come from behaviors. You're not going to change behaviors by putting a camera on the truck, or an eLog in it. You'll only help to identify the issues that you assumed we're already there. To change a behavior you'll need to gain trust. The only way to do that is to show drivers that you're looking out for their best interest. The money will have to stay about the same, with the understanding that just like before any changes there will be good times and not so good times. You'll need to provide solution to the drivers to allow growth during the transition, and then be able to provide solutions that help them achieve their goals. It's much easier said then done. Companies will also have to realize that they'll never achieve zero violations. They'll need to understand that people will have to choose what is best at the moment, and not hammer on their drivers for making decisions. If the decisions result in an unacceptable level of failures or violations then a solution will need to be provided. It's all about compromise, although I was told on another thread that drivers shouldn't have to compromise (or that was basically what it said, I found that to be stupid so I just gave up on that fight)

We need cameras on the drivers at all times. To make sure they are in compliance ! And we should put one in the sleeper too. E-logs don't go far enough......

    Happy new year to everyone.........
