    A driver who I know who drives in the state of New york call a week ago telling me that he was written a citation and then lock up for not following instructions from the State Trooper.
    I know this driver and the familey and his driving record has my respect.
    He had stopped for the night and found an place were parking was permitted. Cold he left his truck idel until there was a knock on the door. The State Police officer told him he was in violation and he was going to issuie a cititaion. My friend point out that his 6 year old daughter was with him out on school vacation and there was not a hotel and he was out of Hours.
    In short the Trooper thought he was trying to resest, locked him up and his very frighten daughter was keep in a county home for children.
    All he was trying to do was make some sense to the officer and protect his child, like he said, if the officer fully understood it would have not come to this.

    he was violated his rights. get a lawyer, sue his butt and the department. take that xxxx badge and settle for no less.

    I honestly am astounded at the idiling issue.. I mean you all deliver our freight and you deserve to be warm or cold (being summer time). You deserve to keep your food cold I mean that truck is your home and if someone told me I could only keep my heat on for so long (which I am doing now anyhow :() I would be irrate. It's just not right, sorry this ideling crap is for the birds, now driving around using company fuel is a different issue.
    The companys/shippers should take in consideration of a driver idiling their truck 24/7 to keep that freight going.

    Sorry, soar subject to me personally.

    People just don't get it.
    As far as the rest of the world is considered, truck drivers have no rights.
    And if the envioro-whackos get their way, we will all be delivering their extra-soft toilet paper from a cardboard box on the back of a pedi-cab.

    OMG!! That poor little girl!! She must have been terrified!!

    What a jerk that trooper was. I'd like to see him sit in the truck all night in the cold.

    I hope it worked out okay and he got out, got his daughter and went on his way.

    Unbelievable how rude and NOT understanding so many people are. Sigh....

    I'm not one for lawsuits but doggone it. That is a little girl. If it were me and my kids I would seriously be considering a lawsuit.
    I think that it is funny, er ironic, that they have antiidling laws for us truckers yet the police can leave their cruisers running while they inspect our truck or go in to get a cup of coffee or whatever they want. They even leave the vehicles running for the police dogs when they go to lunch. Now we are lower than dogs.:biggrin_25513:

    Companies better start putting APU's on as part of the standard equipment package. They are the ones who are really responsible.......what do they expect their drivers to do, freeze?

    IF this is a true story I feel really bad. There are may out there that do not care. Something is amiss though. I find the story to be missing some details. I just can't picture a Trooper locking a trucker up for idling and putting his daughter in county services.

    Unfortunately there are three side to every story

    The Truth

    If the above is true; he's got a hell of a complaint to file. and keep the pig comments to yourself!

    CARB stands for California Air Resources Board.








    The problem with that is that nothing being sold now conforms to CARB rules or won't in the near future. CARB wants technology that doesn't yet exist in the short term. Fuel cell APUs are specifically mentioned. Thermal storage and deep cycle battery powered devices are also being promoted, but the only one I see that won't take a fairly rigid cycle of running the engine to recharge is the fuel cell. Every trip will have to be planned to the partial hour to use storage methods as a means of dealing with temperature and power issues in the truck while the engine is off. Developing a diesel powered APU got lots more expensive because that engine also has to be CARB compliant.

    New York and some of the other New England states are looking to CARB for guidelines. Anywhere air pollution is bad will follow along.

    The perception is that diesel power is dirty, because of the soot.It is also being blamed for increases in asthma in the population and for premature deaths in cities due to particulate pollution.

    What happened in New York to the trucker and his daughter should not have happened. That has been the way it has been handled, whenever a driver has family along and is arrested, the child either spends some time in the care of others, or is placed on a bus to be sent home. The officer's superiors will almost always support the actions of the officer, otherwise we would have anarchy, and anarchy is not allowed.
