Well I read this thread and know what is going on.
This is a arrangement that Tow Companies have been using on commercial property for a while now , its HIGHLY LUCRATIVE. They will have their drivers "cruise " properties they have contracts with or a store employee will call it in when they see a car parked against the rules , they will immediately tow it , impound and hold it hostage , its legal because of private property laws and the person who manages/owns the property KNOWS whats going on-maybe only on the managerial level , many will get a kickback just in the form of a christmas present at the end of the year other times the driver gives them a 20 right on the spot. This happens a lot because its easy revenue for the tow company and the drivers are paid on incentive/per tow. I know about this practice from experience .I am sure many other people who read this also know about it.
In this case , I believe they didnt have a big enough truck immediately or didnt want the driver to drive off so they yanked a gladhand and everything is true about having to have a certified mechanic make the repair , not sure about yanking it off although I am sure you can't legally remove parts from peoples vehicles on private property or public for that matter. That was pretty bold of them to do it however knowing local police probably makes them really brave.
My car was towed under somewhat similar circumstances 2 years ago ,I parked in a no parking spot in my car unloading groceries at my apartment ( minus the disabling )I paused after unloading to use the bathroom ( mexican food ). 15 minutes later my car was gone, I quickly figured out what was happening and contacted the company, called the police and it was the same deal -paid 225 for a 15 minute tow - so now I have been on both sides of this practice. These are the facts about this so its useless calling b.s. on me cause its very, very, very true. Karma is an exwife
I believe you have a few options ( original poster) first you can arrange your facts and try to sue in small claims courts ,if the judge is a good person he will see what is going on and make the tow company pay you back ,.......... if he sees it another way you wasted a bunch of time.
Second option is call the store manager , tell him what happened and tell him you are contacting walmart corporate and going to continue your campaign until you have been satisfied .This will probably work because its too little of a bill to make a big deal about at walmart. I suspect the store manager won't want the attention from corporate and will probably be even more nervous when you remind him you are telling corporate that he is probably getting kickbacks from the tow company that is a typical arrangement. Most corporate officers get kudos from helping their companies avoid liability and bad publicity.
I am always a little leary of commenting on posts because of all the people who have nothing better to do than argue when they have no clue or facts or even experience , nothing changes the fact you shouldn't have parked where there is a no truck parking sign. Still its a malicous practice by tow companies for revenue and I doubt wal mart wants that going on in their parking lots. Good luck getting your money back.tuckerthetrucker Thanks this. -
What I find wierd is that the OP has only made the original post, has not replied once since then, gave a post that left us going. What? And, has accumulated 4 pages of replies. Seems kinda 'noteworthy' if you ask me. Although I can't esxactly deduce what possible conclusion might be drawn from it.

u have a point BUT, if the tow truck is in front of u & they have a vehicle parked behind u real close (so u can't back out & run off), & if u try that, the tow truck driver backs as u back & it goes on & on. i've seen it a number of times. tow guys go in pairs when they do a hook n go type of operation. just something to rememberNavigatorWife Thanks this.

another reason why stores dont like trucks parking in lots is simply.....
too many drivers leave trash & pee bottles in parking lot..you can thank the minority of driver who are doing this ruining it for others.48Packard Thanks this. -
I followed along with this thread and the other thread started by ther OP... thanks for wasting my time....basically all fabricated in my Opinion!!
He is what I will say... he claims they removed his gladhand... well then no towing can occur... also have you ever heard such a thing in your life where someone can actually vandalize your truck and you did nothing about it!! You can rest assure there are many drivers out there that would have fought their butts off if some touched their truck!!
Cops, Tow truck drivers, 3 men.... really.... if you want to write a fictional story go do it but premise that publication as fiction!!!
And to all the good people on this site thank you I have learned much and will continue to follow these posts because we never stop learning something new in this industry...
Jamestwolane Thanks this.
