I won't say this is a perfect job, there are headaches (searching for empties, shippers that make you wait, loneliness, etc.) but of all the jobs I've had, this is the easiest way to make a decent paycheck. For all the, relatively minor, headaches there is a lot of freedom, no one looking over your shoulder, you can stop and take a break whenever you see fit for the most part. If you're a person that doesn't have a huge social life or active family life then you can't find much better than this job. It's a great job if it fits you.

precisely. Just surprised to see a lot of complaints on a trucking forum for "problems" that would come with being an otr trucker. If it's that much of a problem, or if you have a family that needs you there 7 nights a week, find a job that better suits your life.

Oh you'll have complainers anywhere and everywhere, I do it plenty as well. Just life, what about pro athletes? They complain all the time where most of us can't even relate as to why. It's all relative.

If we were the fruity, optimistic, polyannas; we'd be in sales. Not trucking.

No matter where you are, or how comfortable you get, there's always going to be something to complain about. Human nature.

I won't lie and say "I love my job", however I can say with no shame that I like it more than any I've ever had. It's all how you look at it.

I was once told that complaining (that isn't the actual word he used, but there is a language filter) and trucking go hand in hand. As you've noticed, it's true.

I can only go by my own experience. Never had a lot of HIGH paying jobs, but even the decent payings ones had headaches that exceed anything you'll find in trucking from my perspective. As far as pay goes, well, it depends on who you go with. I got lucky and was hired by an o/o right out of company training, so I really can't tell you the horrors of being a company man. On the otherhand, if you work for the company and your truck dies they'll have another one lined up for you. Pay might not be as good, but you have a bit more security.
