Nose in parking thread brought up question. No response on thread so started new.

    On nose in thead some said that it was safer to nose in rather then back in. So anyone care to explain to me why? So I copied/pasted


    Some stated they thought it was safer to back out, rather then back in?
    To me when I back in I am backing into a "static" enviroment" There is a parked truck on one side, Curb far behind, and thats it. My cab is in open (where there can be cars/trucks/people/cats moving around) So I can see them.
    (while I don't recall ever pulling in forward between two trucks/trailers where It was NOT a pull thru) I would imagine it would be nerve wracking (to me) I would be backing up BLIND. All I could see is maybe 2' either side of my trailer in mirrors. I have no idea if kids on bikes, car with driver texting, granny with walker is in blind spot ready to step behind me. Its a uncontrolled envioroment that I can't even have chance to observe. (Even getting out and looking won't work as by time I run into cab/brakes/it can totally change)
    So what am I missing? (regards to hits its safer?) Yes only damage I have done to trailer is backing up. Get distracted, area you are used to backing around corner and a pallet, chunk of steel was left in way (blind side backing)
    I can understand getting out of sun/into shade, blocking lights, noise... all reasons to park another way.
    I can't "get" how its safer to go in nose first. Thanks.

    It's all opinion and that's all. BTW, I seriously doubt that Granny, with her walker, is shuffling along at the backside of the truckstop. Let's stay real, not fantasy.

    good god almighty, enough with this. as long as you dont hit anybody park it however you like, sideways ,upside down, on its side. just park it, get out and go eat.

    lol, just about when you think the flood of silly stuff has receded, it starts raining again

    dont know who said it was safer to nose in and back out, but they are dead wrong, and youve already explained why. there are reasons to nose in, but safety is not among them.

    My attmpt to be funny failed. Sorry. What I was attempting to understand was the idea its safer to back out. (into traffic) in parking lot. How do you see anything? When I have trailers on either side backing in its a known open area. If nose in (which I admit I don't ever recall doing) then back out....
    Also I have been in yards that are FARM YARDS. dogs, cats, kids,etc Folks who don't see a truck every day. So I want to turn around/be facing out before the kids come out to wander around. Then when going to move truck make sure parents have PHYSICAL control of any kids outside.
    I also (attempted) to say I can see reasons to park one direction over others. I just don't understand how its "safer" to level (IIRC one poster said the safety person of fleet told them to)nose in?????
    Guess If there is good reason I will consider changing. If not I won't.

    I will only nose in when the spot allows me to back up straight out I dont like blockin myself in. When I get out I just do it slowly and look at my mirrors if I see I truck I stop and let him go thru because I think he has the right of way he is already moving forward. I doubt any pedestrian will walk right into your moving truck. Nose in there is more privacy thats the only thing I like about it. But it also makes you a target of some jacking specially If you leave to eat or shower thats because nobody is looking!

    I once nosed in for "safety" -- it was a one-way parking lot where the only remaining spot required my tired brain to attempt either a tight/narrow blind-side backing, or a straight-shot nose in (to be followed by a straight-line back in the morning). I suppose I could have gone around, attempted a U-turn, and came back hoping the spot was still there... Anyway, I have not run across a similar situation since, but I'd still wager that in this isolated instance it was best to nose in.
