the info i have is old.. about 5 years old, but my father in law use to work for them guys.. nice trucks, was home almost every weekend and we live in michigan. miles were always inconsistent. some times he would get 3000 some times only 1500... they run mostly midwest and north east from what i can tell...
-
They were bought out by US Xpress they are part of the "family of companies". Last I heard they are not the company they used to be prior to the buy out. They do however still equip there trucks with APU's. Your out 14 days and home for two days. Length of run depends but lucky if you see a 500 mile run. Pay scale is average amongst most of the large trucking companies.

is there any current Smith drivers that have any info on the company

I am a current driver with Smith. I now work local for them but I can share some info. First of all US EXPRESS is no longer affiliated with us. The owner (Barry Smith) sent a message over the qualcomm letting everybody know he has taken back complete control of the company. You have the option of being home weekly or bi weekly. Mostly run a triangle between Northeast ,Midwest and Southeast. Starting base pay is 35 cpm..Can get a few pennies more depending on work experience/history. Plus you get more for shorthaul pay.Anywhere from.05 to .35cpm on top of your base pay. Truck are mainly 387,389,and 379 Petes and Freightliner Cascadias and Coronados. Cummins/detroit power.HP455/475 and tq1650/1750. Base road speed is 65 but all drivers can get their trucks turned up to 68/69 by taking CSA safety class and using the driver simulator. Both of which can be done during orientation. And its prolly 50/50 chance truck might already be turned up. We have ez pass for all tolls/scales...No elogs and I avg abt 3000 miles a week when I was OTR. This is one of those companies if you're a runner you will do well and get longer runs. Also most of our stuff is drop and hook....We have about 800+ trucks and over 3000 trls. Anyway that's some of the basic stuff. They are by far not perfect but most guys including myself make a decent living.
Lonesome, pete1, Buzzard2157 and 4 others Thank this. -

Yes but you are not required to go into the city. We have several local drivers who run loads into the city.
