Thanks for letting me know I'm not alone, LOL
Similar thing happened to me in 2010 in Indianapolis. I was westbound on I-70 in between I-465 & I-65 around 4:40 pm in then lane next to the far left, I noticed traffic merging on,cars & trucks just ahead of me. This local big truck![]()
decides he wants to get in front of me as the traffic was slowing down. To avoid rear-ending him I moved to the left lane as the lane I was in came to a stop. I drove approx. 1/4 mile trying to get back over in the 4th lane, before I could, there was a Indiana Patrol up against the wall that saw me getting back over. He came and escorted meacross three lanes of traffic to give me a ticket for left lane violation. I tried to explain what had happen, he didn't want to hear it. He was getting ready to do a DOT inspection right there, but he got called out for a multi-car-crash involving the same Local
Big truck I was trying to avoid. I still got the left lane violation. And like you Ida-Boy I just Paid the ticket, $160 instead of traveling from Arkansas to fight it.

Without a video it's hard to say but this is what I get out of the story.....
How did the truck end up in the right lane beside you? He must of come out of the construction like a bat out of hell trying to pass you on the right?
With speed adjustment, a little less aggressive driving on one of the two trucks this could of been avoided. If the other driver was trying to pass you on the right than he can deal with the situation he created instead of you being courteous to fix his screw up with risking a ticket.
There is no need to go to court today. There are many lawyers that will appear on a drivers behalf with a phone call.
I had a somewhat similar incident northbound I-65 coming out of the Louisville no fly zone. I was running right with a county mounty. As most of you know the left lane is no trucks and the right lane turns into the exit 9 off ramp. After exit 9 around mm10 the restriction is lifted as it goes back to two lanes. Anyways there was a concert or sports event going on and the right lane was a major back up and the two left lanes was light traffic. As we approached the exit line the bear moves over to the right lane and stops in line. I continue following the 4 wheeler that was in front of him. At the exit Y and last second that 4 wheeler slams on his brakes and stops in my lane as he attempts to butt in the off ramp line. Instead of braking hard and risking my freight I stepped in the left lane to avoid a conflict. I didn't think the bear would care since we were at the end of the restriction. WRONG! He jumped out of line and come after me. I told him you witnessed the whole thing and I know you were watching. Really what did I do wrong? Because I haven't passed the sign on the other side of the exit? I avoided a collision. You should of got that idiot butting 4 wheeler that almost caused a wreck. He gave me a warning but still that was uncalled for.NavigatorWife Thanks this. -
I do agree that slowing down was an option in this case: if I was to slow down I would have had to not just lift off the fuel but I would have had to apply the brakes. There was traffic in front of us in the 1 lane construction as well as behind us. My first reaction was to move over and I went with it instead of braking. So for those of you who think I should have braked, they you are correct. I chose to just move over since the lane was clear.
Yes my bad... But I will still put safety first, always! -
I wanted to add that I picked up The Truckers Dash Cam the one advertised on Sirius XM radio. I hope to be ready next time to plead my case. I can't hurt.

Exactly, it may help and certainly can't hurt.

I'm on a personal mission of education on the highways. I lead by example. I will not give up my lane unless it is completely safe and legal to do so. If that means that merging traffic must adjust their speed to safely merge while I'm in the right lane because there are vehicles blocking me from moving left, then that's what needs to happen. It is the responsibility of the merging traffic to merge safely. I will not and should not have to create a dangerous situation by slowing or moving left at the last minute because someone else does not know how to merge properly.
I'll be 'nice' when I can, but if being 'nice' means a lane violation, hard braking or an unsafe movement, it's not going to happen.48Packard and scottied67 Thank this. -
I feel the same way you do I admit: but when safety of work crews, a broken down trucker or tow truck, etc... I do tend to ease mt stance and give as much room as possible.
-
Precisely the tack I have begun taking. Not bustin' my hump because some clown doesn't understand what "merge", "acceleration lane", or "yield" means to them as a driver. If it's safe AND I've got plenty of room (I'm at 62, remember), I'll do it.

Hind sight is always 20/20. A lot of cops just enforce a set of rules that they have been taught. The police academy forces the officers to think a certain way and punishes those who think
