Hi everybody from the southern Delaware. I'm starting school tomorrow and going for CDL Class A. For endorsements, I'm thinking Hazard and maybe Doubles/Triples.
Early 30's, clean record (other than a PBJ last year hoping is not a problem), never drugs or DUI's.
The reason of going the CDL route is that I love driving and wanna travel if possible the whole country but also looking for a better income.
For the companies I have in mind for employment are:
    1. Perdue. We were told at orientation that they take new students from this school and it's pretty much local.
    2. US Xpress. I've been reading, in this forum that is not too bad and they go 48 States.
    3. TMC. It seems like a fun company to work for and I feel attracted by their flat bed opportunities and maybe my excavator and skid steer experience may come handy.
    4. Con-Way. I just read about their hi mileage trips and consequently hi pay.
    5. I would really like to work for a company that delivers new cars because the hi income but they only take experienced drivers, that's why the Dobles/Triples endorsement.

I will appreciate any other recommendations or get off the list comments.
Thank you and I'll see you around.

Did they ever talk about Roehl Transport? I worked for them for a couple of months and I never had a bad experience with them, ever. They do go all over the US and they always try to get you home when you want to get home. OTR you're out for 11 to 14 days and then home for 3 days. I haven't found a company that offers that. Also, they do have flatbed. I noticed you mentioned that so I figured I'd put that in. But going back to hometime, they have several options for that. Look them up. I think you'll like them.

Yes, absolutely get all the endorsements, tanker, hazmat, passport & TWIC. What is PBJ you mentioned? If you have a record, you won't need a passport, because you can't enter Canada. You want to run 48 states; some companies don't , so look at the websites before wasting your time getting a prehire. Also look at hiring areas; not all companies hire from DE. Might need to use some relatives address in another state if it becomes necessary to get the job you want. You might get on the Carhauler Thread to get information on training for that. The few carhaulers I've known are usually walking around muttering, "Oh, my aching back." Doubt if you will be hauling any Fiskers out of Delaware though. Flat bed is a good option and another not mentioned too often on here is "bedbuggers", ie Household Movers. Don't remember ever passing a bedbugger on the freeway; they are usually in the hammer lane pushing the envelope. When filling out applications, ignore the "experience required", because many companies sometimes hire new CDL drivers that don't advertise it. The more application/pre-hires you submit, the better your chances of landing the job you really want.

Thank you Kit5 I will consider Roehl also.
Chinatown PBJ stands for "Probation Before Judgment". Basically if you haven't had a ticket in a 5yrs period of time and you get one with points you go to Court and they won't consider the points and nothing will go to your driving record, all you gotta do is pay the fine. I was speeding according to the officer even tho I was following the traffic flow. Thank you for the input, I believe there's a Mayflower locally.
