OPS-1 Bypass Oil Filter Install

    I am trying to get some ideas on installing OPS-1 on a 2003 Century w/ Series 60. Where should I mount the system? Where should I tap in for the supply and where should I put the return? Any other tips or information would be appreciated.

    Hey Jimmbuds, normally you would want to come from the oil pressure sensor with a tee on it and feed back in to the oil pan. There are a few oil outlets on the engine. I would just see which one you easier access to. I mounted mines on the frame rail on the passenger side. If you have lots of hose, you can take it back farther, away from the road grime etc.
    And you would only want about 1/4 inch line going in to the filter, otherwise not very effective.

    I havent really looked at it to see if the tire turning would effect it, but when you mounted it on the frame rail did your steering and the tire have any effect on the system? Did the tire get close to the system, or did you mount it right above the axle?

    I have a volvo and I had to install it on the passenger side, closer to the front. When you do find a spot, check behind the frame rail, make sure ther are no air lines that you could possibly drill into. Or just move it to the back under the cab somewhere.:yes2557:

    First option should always be the cool side of the engine aka the drivers side. In some cases it's not possible.

    I have an '05 Columbia w/ a 14 litre & the install was a bit of a pain. I looked for a pressure source for weeks, finally called OPS & they explained that the only place on my engine is a plug on the right side of the block at the rear of the engine. It's hidden behind the oil cooler/filter base & vpod, a major exercise to wiggle my fat arms back in there to do the work. The return line was no problem going back into the oil pan. I ended up not using some of their fittings so I could get a swivel connection on each end of both hoses, something that I think they should supply. Also, the 45 degree angle fitting they gave me to go into the blockwould not work, I had to swap it for a straight one.


    I mounted the filter right behind the air dryer & spaced it out a couple of inches from the frame for better clearance. I tapped into the switched power to the air dryer to run the OPS.


    Read the OPS instructions a couple of times & call them if you have questions/problems & you'll be fine.

    Most systems that I've worked on took the oil from the back of the oil cooler right under the turbo oil feed. The return went into the pan. On our FLD's they were mounted up front on the right side frame rail by the air dryer.
