Need your advice. I enjoy going to the range. Have a conceal carry permit that allows me to carry in most states. Do you think that if I took my gun with me but had no ammo ever in the truck....do you think that would protect me from getting in trouble in cities and counties that have strict carry laws ? This way I can still go to the range when I have downtime.

It doesn't matter whether you have ammunition or not...if the firearm is prohibited under state/local law, then you'll get in trouble if you are caught with it. Some jurisdictions will go the other way with it too, and prosecute you if you have a prohibited type of ammunition (i.e. hollow point) even if you don't have a firearm with you.

Gun laws vary from state to state and sometimes even from city to city within a state, so remaining in compliance with all of the various state and local laws can be tricky. If you are going to carry, you need to know what the laws are EVERYWHERE you run....

Leave the pistol at home, take your pump 12 GA. instead. Kinda hard carrying it to the shower and stuff though, lol. As for having an unloaded weapon for self defense, that's not a great idea, IMO. After all, once you draw on someone you'd better be ready to drop the hammer. Especially if they go for their heat and leave you with click click click due to no ammo.

Get yourself a gun safe, and keep it in your closet if your truck has one. No one has the authority to make you open the safe unless they have a warrant.

Believe the OP was talking about having a weapon to shoot at various ranges whenever he has a chance, not as personal protection. If you are going to be a company driver, pretty much don't even think about carrying. If you will be an O/O, then your informed decision.

It's a risky choice, but as a company driver, if you have a gun safe, they cant make you open it either. You don't have to tell them it's a gun safe--just say you use it to keep your valuables or whatever..

    Title 18 Setcion 926(a).
    TITLE 18–CRIMES AND CRIMINAL PROCEDURE
    PART I–CRIMES
    CHAPTER 44–FIREARMS
Sec. 926A. Interstate transportation of firearms
Notwithstanding any other provision of any law or any rule or
regulation of a State or any political subdivision thereof, any person
who is not otherwise prohibited by this chapter from transporting,
shipping, or receiving a firearm shall be entitled to transport a
firearm for any lawful purpose from any place where he may lawfully
possess and carry such firearm to any other place where he may lawfully
possess and carry such firearm if, during such transportation the
firearm is unloaded, and neither the firearm nor any ammunition being
transported is readily accessible or is directly accessible from the
passenger compartment of such transporting vehicle: Provided, That in
the case of a vehicle without a compartment separate from the driver’s
compartment the firearm or ammunition shall be contained in a locked
container other than the glove compartment or console.

    That being said,
I would bet that you could give this to 100 attorneys, and all 100 would interpret it differently. I think what it is saying, is a CDL driver may carry a gun in the truck with him or her, PROVIDING that it does not violate any other STATE or COUNTY or CITY law, in which the driver will be passing through. Good luck on trying to get all those laws. :biggrin_2556:
