I can't tell you how many times I've been behind a driver clogging the hammer lane at 10 under the limit because they're using the truck to the right of them to maintain their speed and lane position. Why? Because they have a phone glued to their ear, that's why.
People get stupid when they're on the phone. Even with a headset.
One good rule to add to the regs would be that a driver may not have a phone in the truck with them unless they also have a hands-free device that works with the phone. I see so many daycab drivers using cheap prepaid flip phones that don't have bluetooth. Companies should not even allow them to have those phones in the truck.

HwyPrsnr Thanks this. -
Its not really a big deal to text & drive ..I let the rumple bumps on the shoulder bring my attention back to driving
windsmith Thanks this. -
A girl here in OK. was killed while texting and last text was 5 seconds before the computer recorded the crash and it was I'm on my way HOME ! Kind of scary if you think about it. going home for good. I don't care what kind of distraction it is don't unless it is a necessity . People will make excuses all the time for the dumb things to do while drivingand I wont say I haven't done the same,But I have never took my eyes off the road long enough to write a text.

Back in the early days of smart phones I attempted it once or twice in my car and was alarmed at how much focus it takes away from driving. That was before the clever commercials about it came out. Compared to say eating or fishing a lit cigarette off the floor, texting is about like driving with a bag on your head. Ever since, I'll glance at an incoming message and just call if it looks like something that needs immediate attention, or it waits till I'm parked.
The ones that claim texting and driving isn't a problem are usually the ones that brag about their awesome driving skills and blame everyone and anything else for any accidents they've ever had.windsmith, TRKRSHONEY, HwyPrsnr and 3 others Thank this. -

And THAT right there just reeks of complacency and overconfidence - and a bridge strike or rollover just waiting to happen.
