How long have you been with L/S? I know I was told any new operators after Oct.2012 has to have them. I used them when I was leased to Schneider and once I got used to them I loved them and actually made more $$. You do have to do a good pre-plan each day.

Well iam not at the moment. Ive always ran paper and had good luck and never (knock on wood) had a ticket. I ran elogs for a month one time and they are fine as long as you dont get stuck waiting for hours to get unloaded then reloaded. I dont run myself to death but if im not ready to go to sleep then i want to keep them wheels turning.
richhawn Thanks this. -
The e-logs are actually not bad once you get use to how to work them. I do like my old lose-leaf logs but at the same time e-logs will kinda spoil you a bit...lol
There are ways to save your time on these e-logs. Such as when unloading at a customer the company says you have to be On-Duty Not Driving. But If you put yourself on Off-duty or Sleeper you will save hours on your weekly 70. It is hard to save time in your "one work day". But to keep yourself moving and keep hours on the 70 clock, You want to be marked as off duty or sleeper as much as possible.
The only time the e-logs record that a driver CANNOT change is driving. all other statuses you can edit and enter notes. I enjoy the e-logs a lot and like I said once you get use to using them it is really easy.
More good things about the e-logs are that DOT (95%) of the time will not check your log. Because if DOT wants to check your log, they will either have you walk them through the e-log or you will have to tell him if he wants to see your logs, you will need a fax number and you can have them faxed to that number within the next hour...lol
The only time DOT ever checked my e-log was in Arizona and he asked me to show him how it works.herfinharry, trknfool and richhawn Thank this. -
elogs as a team ok. elogs as a solo sucks. and anyone that says they can do the same or more miles on a elog is full of it. 1 most company trucks are 65mph. now at that speed 65*11=715 miles and leaves you 3 hours to cover any unloading fueling a delays.....when i was running west to east and back. the best i did was 700 miles a day and that was keeping the doors shut and holding my blader....now on my paper log. i can run comfortable stop and piss or eat and still get to where i need to be....sure the log is tech not legal but it looks legal and i am where i need to be. with elog you just lose to much time when waiting to load unload or fueling.....sure it easy to use. but i would rather have something i have to think about alittle and make more money than something easy and losing my time and money....now if shippers and recievers and truckstops got it to where you could get in and out great but when you spend 6 hours loading that hurts...paper i show 15 minutes and rolling.....
sherlock510, herfinharry and blacklabel Thank this. -
I can run 3000-3200 miles a week ... legally on e-logs if the planners got it together. Been there done that. If it takes me 5 minutes to fuel, that's 5 minutes gone, not 15 as on paper. Unless you want to argue that a 5 minute fuel stop does not need to be logged on paper because it's less than 7.5 minutes. Pros and Cons on both sides, but mainly because you can't "get rid of" sitting at a dock, most guys don't like not being able to cheat. Even on paper, 14 hours is 14 hours and you can't just "erase" sitting around time...... legally speaking of course.... at least that's what I've been told.
herfinharry and richhawn Thank this. -
Just finished my hazmat recert. and cabs class. They have pushed the eobr(elog) for any new bco to august 2012.

so really the only thing you can complain about is having to run legal is what your sayingherfinharry, peterd, richhawn and 2 others Thank this.

Well i sat down at talked w my dad and he says... i thought it was pay per load, why you worrying about miles....
Food for thought -
Your Dad is a smart man. I have been an Owner/Op for over 20 yrs, You need to lose that company driver mentality. It is NOT about how many miles you can run.
Concentrate on how much money you can make, on the minimum amount of miles. I havent ran 3000 miles in a week in years (dont care if I ever do again) and I earn a very good living.
It doesnt matter if you run 4500 miles or 2000 miles per week, if you can net $2000 per week. Which one would you choose ?drvrtech77, blacklabel and Zangief Thank this.
