I see..
What it is is that the new hires can't have pets now. The rules changed in September. But all these years they have allowed pets. So they have alot of drivers that already have them. The people that were hired on before the rules changed in Sept were grandfathered in and allowed to keep their pets. I hear the rule may change back in half a year or so. We'll see.

Well. One thing I know for sure is that all schools at Swift are not the same. If you decide to go with Swift I recommend going to Lewiston
They have smaller classes there and are very nice.
I think they will let you. A guy in my class had come from the east. Said the class was way to big there and he asked to be transferred. You have to be willing to ride the bus that far tho
Also stay away from the Fontana terminal. Heard badd= things about it. -
Yes... the way my trainer is is that he stays in the seat for as long as it takes. For the first week he is required by the company to stay in the seat and he is not allowed to drive more then 3500 miles (I think he said 3500, could be a little less) with his student. I asked him the other day how long he has had to stay in the seat and he said two or three weeks. He thinks its stupid to go back and sleep when it doesn't feel safe yet. But when it finally does, they start driving teams.
He never forces me to drive 10 hour shifts either. But he does say that some trainers do do that right off the bat. He never forces me to do something that is too much. The other night we had to do an all night run from Sumner down to Oakland, Ca. We pick up the trailer at 10:00 pm and it had to be there by 12:00 am next day. I started driving first. I was tired from being so stressed out from being so new. I wasnt used to sleeping in the truck and staying up that late. He told me that I could drive for two hours then he would take over (at midnight) but I didnt want him to have to drive all that way by himself so I tried to do longer then that. After 2 hours it got really foggy. I couldn't see anything. Truck were wizzing by me without a care. I was so scared I almost started crying. I was only going about 40mph...lol...finally I said i can't do it. I pulled over at the rest stop and he took over and drove the whole rest of the night all the way to Oakland.
I stayed up for a bit to calm down and keep him company but finally exhaustion got the best of me and i headed for the sleeper. And do you know what happened?? I feel asleep and for the next 5 hours had the most surreal sleeping experience... I was tumbling turning falling and swaying in a never ending earthquake. The road rolled and heaved as chunks of concrete fell away just as we bearly got over it. Buildings were swaying things were falling... I woke up three times that night. Each time I feel back asleep I went right back into the earthquake. But the third time, I was inside the dream again, I thought to myself.. you are just dreaming.. this is not real... -
so my husband is just not having good luck with swift. he has been out on his own now for about 3 weeks and can't get more than 2000 miles a week. He thinks his dm just has no idea of what he is doing. Everyone else he talks to gets like 3000 to 3500. unfortunetly the money is not good and he is away from home and his family and it doesn't ssem worth it. He wants to look for another company but are they all the same? Please if anyone has any advice anyway he can get a new dm or is he stuck?

I was in the same boat. Bringing home $400/week just didn't seem to justify being away from family 25 out of 30 days a month. So I quickly landed a spot on a dedicated account. I immediately doubled my bring home pay and I am at home EVERY SINGLE DAY. I couldn't be happier.

They should not of ever allowed pets in company trucks IMO.
About the only thing fouler then getting a dirtbags truck, is getting one that had pets in it.
Then you go to the rest areas and they let their pets crap & pee all over the place so I get to smell it in the hot summer heat on the way to the bathroom. I can not even count how many times I have seen them ignore the clearly marked pet areas at rest areas so that the rest of us get to dodge their excrimate on the way to the bathroom.
I got a truck once that looked clean until you s6tarted looking behind the cabinets and pulling out the filters. What a mess.
Unless you own your truck, pets belong at home. Glad more company's are putting in no pet policys. It's past time.
Another person who thinks all company's drive solo with a trainee? Read the posts and you could of already answered that question. -
FROM VICS GTO.. THE VERY BEST THING YOU CAN DO IS HAVE A FACE TO FACE AND TRY TO COMMUNTICATE WHAT YOU MUST HAVE (NOT ULTAMATUMS) AND REMEMBER IT TAKES AWHILE TO BUILD A REP AND GETTING THIS DRILLED INTO YOUR DM'S HEAD SO HE REMEMBERS YOU. HE HAS ALOT GOING ON. THE OTHER THING IS THAT HIGH MILAGE YOUR HEARING ABOUT? DON'T BELIEVE IT TO QUICK. LOOK AT THE AVERAGE FOR THE MONTH NOT FOR A WEEKS PAY. I WOULD SAY THAT 3000 FOR A WEEK AT THERE TRK LOG SPEED WOULD BE GREAT. I JUST TRIED TO DO THE MATH BUT THE VARIABLES THAT EAT UP TIME ARE SO MANY THAT I COULDN"T. JUST REMEMBER THAT GETTING A SRAIGHT STORY THAT ISN'T SOMEWHAT BLOWN UP IS HARD TO COME BY. (HINT)ASK FOR A COPY OF THEIR YR TO DATE PAY INFO AND AVERAGE YOURSELF AND SEE IF IT REALLY COME OUT TO THAT, BET YA CAN'T GET ANY VOLUNTEERS. REMEMBER THAT ALOT OF COMUNICATION AT AN ADULT LEVEL WILL GET YA THEIR EVENTUALLY IT TAKES TIME AND STICKING WITH IT AND FREIGHT TODAY IS UP AND DOWN, THEY "ALL" HAVE THE PROBLEM AT THIS TIME OF YEAR REGARDLESS OF WHAT THEY SAY. DEDICATED DOES HAVE IT'S MOMENTS ALSO JUST LIKE THE REST. THIS TRADE HAS NO CRYSTALL BALL AVAILABLE ITS ALL COMMISION THERFORE VARIABLE
\GOOD LUCK -
He has only been on his own for 3 weeks? Here's the advice of a former Swifty.
.............
I have a strong feeling that he is regional? Although regional seems nice..... you get more miles if you do all 48. Try to talk him into doing all 48.
He has only 3 weeks on his own..... make him stick to it until he has a little over 3 months, then get him to go with a different company, so he doens't have to repeat going out with a trainer.
Hope I was of any help. You could give me some green dots if I was.
J/k.
But I do hope my advice helped. -
Are all drivers under this DM getting less than 2000 miles? And if you can answer that then my next question for you is "How do you know the individual stats for all drivers under a specific DM?"
I'm not saying this is the case, but it's easy to first point fingers at the DM instead of the driver maybe not knowing how to fully utilize his time so early in his career. Maybe he's still battling that learning curve. -
thanks for the reply and advice hope everything is working out for you.
