At small companies with limited driver resources-being professional is knowing the rules/regs and getting them satisfied while getting all your work done and not putting other drivers, the office, or the public's welfare in a bind. That's just part of the job and if you can't or won't do it getting fired is always an option.

Alot of people think they can mask their laziness behind a shroud of being "super compliant to regulations and committed to safety" .. this is usually an exercise for them in self delusion because their fellow drivers who are getting all the regulations met and getting all their work done too know it's a farce.

Im saying all this with 2 million miles of safe operation under my belt..

 

So..only an inspection report but no inspection??...so I see that you're admitting falsifying paperwork...you can't fill out an inspection report and not do an inspection because then you're lying about it.

 

No he's saying he's doing an inspection, and it meets his satisfaction, he's just not logging it.

 

Wouldn't flagging a pretrip start your 14 hour clock, seeing as it is on duty? Not arguing, just trying to get a better understanding

 

Any "On-Duty" activity, line 3 or line 4, will start the 14 hour clock.

 

Doing it as part of the post trip check is all good and well. Especially if you have a shop that works at night to fix and will certify it. But, in reality, you are OTR and by the rules any time spent waiting on repairs is also on duty as well.

I address the issue at the pre trip.

 

I've always done my inspection during my 15 minute Fuel.. and it's normally about right -10 minutes to fuel and 5mins for inspection ... Fuel/Vehicle inspection on a 15 minute On Duty.. then you can fill out the report at the end of the day and all the hoops have been jumped through.. never been hassled by DOT about it.

 

Let's see. I did a pre-trip, before I started the day. I then did walk arounds every time I stopped to pee, fuel, get something to eat, etc. At the end of my day, the steering wheel wasn't in my lap, all 18 wheels were still where they are supposed to be and nothing had fallen off. The brakes worked, as I stopped in the parking space I aimed for, not in the cornfield behind the parking lot. The parking brakes work, as I'm not rolling down the hill of this less than level truckstop.
I've been inspecting all day! The regulation is satisfied.
