I'm from the UK, but lived in US for a long time. Your best bet is go to the Brit truckers forum, ... trucknetuk. There's a bunch of Ex Pats on that board that can help you better with your questions. I drove over in the UK and Europe before moving to USA , but that was while I was in the RAF. At first you won't make that kind of money over here, don't know starting wages in Canada though. As I say check out trucknetuk. Best of luck mate.

I'm Canadian and have talked to many Euro/ Brit drivers that have done what you're thinking of doing. Most have left the company that brought them over, as soon as they could. Usually about 2 years. It could be a good foot in the door to make a way to make a better life for yourself. But you've got to realize that any company that is recruiting overseas is having trouble hiring at home for a reason.

As far as wages goes, whatever they tell you is probably achievable but you'll work for every penny. Canadian HOS is 70 hours in 7 days and a 36 hour restart lets you work 84 hours every 7 days.

The only reason any Canadian trucking company is hiring Temporary Foreign Workers is to drive down truck drivers wages. There are approximately 700,000 Canadian citizens with truck drivers licenses who are no longer working in trucking. Many lost their jobs to Temporary Foreign Workers who are paid less and are forced to work under bad conditions. How do you feel about being an indentured slave who is preventing a Canadian from having a job?

H&R is not a good company to work for and neither are any of the trucking companies that hire Temporary Foreign Workers.

The Temporary Foreign Worker program is currently the biggest scam being pulled on truck drivers.

I was beginning to believe I was the only one that felt this way.

If a carrier needs to "import" truck drivers from half way around the world there is a definate problem with them! Think about it, they're not recruiting rocket scientists, brain surgeons or skilled tradesmen.

you're not the only one ralph. But I think it's long due that drivers here stop providing aide to those choosing this path by providing them with any information which would encourage this practice.

It's bad enough the Harper government is encouraging this practice as a means to drive wages down but I'll be ###### if I'm going to help those wastes of skin in doing it.

I have to completely disagree with this statement. Canada needs more people desperately. Canadians are not having enough children to support its own economy in the coming decades. We will need more tax payers than we are as a nation, producing!

Besides that, if a legal, law abiding citizen wants a chance at a better life, I say come on over! If you don't like the wages you work for, find another line of work. I do really well at this and know others who do the same.

I'll also add, that there was no difference in drivers wages during the decade of Liberal government. To blame The Conservatives for your dissatisfaction with your wage is childish.

Canada is a GREAT country, currently managed by a responsible government that understands fiscal responsibility. Our national debt per household is very low and we should be out of deficit in a year or two. Adding more taxpayers will only speed up the process.

So you think we need more Mandarin speaking miners working the mines in BC then eh? You think we need more East Indian drivers who can't speak a word of English coming over and lowering the rates even more than they have...

In case you hadn't noticed...there's no driver shortage but props to you for buying into the ######## David Bradley and the Harper #######es are spewing. They love gullible fools that believe their word as gospel.
