Yeah... The States are going nuts taxing trucks... I just sent an email to NY's Governor... I'm no longer going to run freight in, out, or through any state that requires seperate taxes and quarterly filings other than the normal IFTA... unfortunately for the 6 NE states, lopping NY off my available routing also leaves them out... I'm now a 38 state IRP truck.. I don't pay the left out states for the IRP tag, and I don't run freight to/through them.... NOW: If EVERY O/O out there would do that, this stupidity would stop. NY, KY, CA (just because of the CARB BS), OR, and the 6 states left out because you can't get to them except to pass through NY, would all be hurtin fer certain if we could all just boycott the morons... when mini-van mom has to pay $11 for a loaf of bread, the crap will detonate before if ever gets close to the fan... We may not be able to go on strike, but as O/O's we can refuse to run in areas at will... there's plenty of freight out there w/o going to the ####### Children states AND, if WE all refuse to go there, that leaves the cheap freight haulers all they can handle in those lanes/states... keeps them out of our way and prevents them from depressing the rates in the 38 states we are willing to run... The loss of IRP fees and IFTA $$$ and tolls, etc... is going to be enormous.... SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO.... Ladies and Gentlemen, I put it to you... Stand Together, or hang separately.

I am asking OOIDA to take up the cause and call for a boycott of the States mentioned above... Remember, WE make up the largest percentage of trucks on the road... let's do something to make a difference.

Ny has bin out in full force for the last year. They are everywhere and out looking for anything. Just got it friday in Monticello. DOT cop pulled up next to me then pulled me over to check my length. In over 23 years running all over NY and plenty of inspectins have i ever bin measured for length. Any one who does not think there out for money lately had better run in NY and Ct and you see a bigger presence of DOT and stops along the side of the road and there writing tickets. Maybe not in some parts of the country but here they are. Ny needs the money bad.

For displaying the sticker. For this year at least because they didn't have the stickers. But you still have to pay like always. Sticker is new.

Apparently, even large trucking companies would only pay for a single truck and this was the best way, like IFTA stickers, to make sure trucks are in compliance without doing the paperwork check like NM does.

Well... if you look at the REQUIREMENTS, NY is now mandating a quarterly road use tax filing IN ADDITION to the fuel tax IFTA quarterly return... it's ANOTHER tax, not fuel but ROAD USE, which is what the IRP system is supposed to be... you pay a percentage of your plate to each state listed on your cab card... THAT is supposed to be the road use tax... NY, NM and OR just dig deeper into your pocket now...

That is bad enough, but in a State like NY where the tolls went WAY beyong outrageous about $300 ago, additional road use tax is just criminal... ALSO, you have to keep separate records, file additional quarterly tax returns AND suffer possible audits... it's getting so that we need to have a CPA on the truck at all times anymore... I say: ENOUGH IS ENOUGH!

Actually, I was in a WaWa in NJ, bobtailed there for lunch and homland security/state Dot came up while I was eating and checked my paperwork. Had a chance to talk to the homeland securtiy person and he really filled me in on a lot. Their mainly looking for trucks with fauls dot numbers or plates that don't match the truck vin, or operating with no authority, etc..........With the PRISM system and IRP, Their able to cross reference immediately. They now can impound your truck for unpaid taxes. Which they could before but very difficult for a roadside inspection to know that. 25 states is now part of this progam, i'm sure more to follow. The gentleman was very informative. They really are trying to stop Illegal trucks and get them off the road. He also said through this progam and CSA, they have permanetly taken 16oo carriers and buses off the road in the last 2 years. Most of them with forged paperwork. So...... everything in order nothing to wory about.

A lot of states are allowed to do surprise roadside inspections without cause. It's part of agreeing to drive a commercial vehicle in that state.

Some states need a reason to pull you over (a spotted violation, like a light out, missing mud flap, speeding, out-of-lane, no seat belt, etc).

I don't like the inspections to be on the roadside itself. I just got one in Ohio last month and wasn't happy about it. It wasn't a busy freeway, but it's still a freeway. The problem was, it was either there or an off-ramp. There was no rest areas in the area to drive to.

nothing new about NJ impounding trucks over taxes.

if you are incorporated and run through or deliver / pick up in nj you must pay the yearly corporate tax ($500 yearly minimum but a percentage of your gross revenue made in NJ) just for the privileged of doing business there.

a guy i know that was leased to a company based in pa went through a dot check on 295 was stopped and held because the company never paid the nj tax.

the nj dept of revenue was at the dot ckeck running mc/dot numbers .

they held him for 5 hours until the company did a wire transfer of funds ..this was over 10 years ago. that's the main reason i never incorporated

there are other states that have these taxes as well they just don't enforce them.

but as the states budgets go deeper in debt you can bet they will look for any avenues available to get money for the state

Do that to me, and I may end up pushing you out of my way while dialing 911 and reporting a hijack attempt with a stolen police cruiser. I don't suspect that's proper procedure for a traffic stop.

You are totally right about this point. Being I run the I-80 corridor from Chicago to Jersey every week I get the privilage to see a lot of junk equipment. I am totally amazed when that they get flagged right through a inspection, but decent and good looking equipment get flagged aside. When my wife went with me a showed her some of the issues with other trucks and she was blown away...we counted 21 equipment violations in a matter of 15 miles. Some trucks had 2-3 issues that were easily noticed. Yet knowning my luck if I ever skimped out on my maintance I would get pulled over within 10 miles from my house.
