So St. Augustine or Palatka? Arnold has some dedicated runs out of Jax and Palatka. The 1 on 1 feel is a myth in trucking companies that hire students.

I believe FFE has a terminal out of Miami and Winter Haven or you could try Con-Way.

As long as you have a clean record you shouldn't have a problem. Biggest issue you will run into is the lack of experience. Most people end up going to work for a mega carrier to get their 6mo-1yr in, then it opens up many more opportunities. If your lucky, you might be able to get on with a smaller or local company. Just be sure to put a resume together for the small companies, and be prepared to fill out many online applications for the larger ones.

Yeah, Conway Truckload told me they would hire me out of FL for solo or team. They say north of Orlando is where they hire.

Windy Hill is a good company. Just like the military, don't believe what you hear and only half of what you see. Any driver that has given this company an honest shot realizes it is a good company. The turn over rate is one of the lowest in the industry which is another testiment to the quality of this carrier. Of course, you are gonna have your "prima donna's", your 3 month wonder, high maintenance, you owe me a pay-check but don't ask me to work for it, let me tear your equipment up drivers that clean out their truck when no one is around who do nothing but bad mouth companies trying to hide the fact that they can't cut the mustard.

    Hi Everyone,

I am new to this forum, and also the wife of a soon to be trucker (hopefully), so please forgive me if some of my questions seem stupid. First of all, my husband and I live in North Florida, and he is in construction. We have been through h*ll and back several times in the past 3-4 years due to the construction economy. In April 2009, my husband obtained his CDL Class A license. At that time, he had several tickets on his record, so he wasn't able to get hired on with anyone, so we just forgot about trucking. We are now looking into it again, because we need STEADY paychecks for him. All tickets are over 4 years old at this point.

We are considering Windy Hill, which has terminals out of Eutis, FL and one in Wisconsin. We are considering them, because the pay is good from what we hear. Our only problem is, my husband needs to pay a school again to take a refresher course, because he knows he can't pass the road test for Windy Hill without this refresher course, which our local technical school charges about $1,000 for it. He also needs to update his license with our current address, get eye glasses, and a new medical card, his current one is expired. So all in all, we are looking at about $1500 give or take for him to get back into the trucking world.

My question is, with Windy Hill, can he make AT LEAST $600 a week after taxes? He will need about $150 a week for being on the road for his food. I need at least $500 a week to pay the bills. I have done extensive research on this company, and have found good and bad, mostly good reviews about them. I just need and want an honest opinion from anyone. Thank you so much!

Contact the Florida Terminal, they may be able to get him going without taking a refresher.

Run legal, they'll abuse your cdl.

There are also other, better, companies in that area.
