First, they aint going to shut a company down for being up against a threshold. Second, if they did shut them down he would have money and no job. If he's not making enough money to pay the bills at his current job, THEN he would be broke.

If he's going broke now, I don't see what he has to lose.

Nope, but they can investigate the company and shut it down if they find any more infractions they don't like. A companies CSA score is a good indication of how they operate.

I can think of 2 things:

    1) You're living beyond your income. If this applies to you, then what you make will never matter. You will always spend more than you make.

    2) Here comes this phrase again: "Job Hopping". Bouncing around from one company to another isn't going to accomplish anything except kill your pocketbook. You're NEVER going to make a decent wage if you job hop. Always remember that the grass is greener on the other side because of the BS used for fertilizer. Just because a company pays more up-front doesn't conclude that is a better company to drive for.

So anything over 70 percent is a really poor score and anything under it is (kind of) accepted and OK in the eyes of the feds?

And there is always the attitude (which I have) that I was looking for a job when I found this one. So am I worse off?

They aren't going to investigate them just for being up against a threshold. There are so many threshold companies out there the FMCSA can't keep up. They'll need to do something to get themselves in big trouble before they raise a flag I think. Just run a few MC numbers through the CSA score website if you doubt me.

What you may have missed form the original post was his company has lost some contracts and they are cutting miles. And this new high CSA company is close to his house.

I guess what was lost in this discussion, or I didn't mention it, was that if the HOS numbers are that high, they're either allowing or requiring cheating on the logbook. If it's the latter, then as a driver who runs legal, how long would it be before they would terminate me for late/missed loads due to not being a "team player" and cooking the book to get it done?

Remember, this is a company that runs loose leaf logs and has no qualcomm.

They can investigate for any reason they please. Being against and over a threshold is inviting a inspection.

I didn't miss anything from the origional post. See the comment that started this madness. I've been around this game long enough to know who is good at playing it and who isn't. The companies high CSA score is on HOS violations. As a driver, that should throw a giant red flag. But I guess common sense isn't so common anymore.

Excellent point! Hit the nail on the head bud! High CSA score go directly to managements style..... no escaping that AND high scores ARE NOT tolerated by major shippers. They can ,will and do cut you off or deny you new business.

    Good call.

( And this is why the ATA and other cronies plus the carriers want the scores hidden, so you don't know wassup !)
