I am looking at Stevens but want some honest feedback. How often would I get to come home? I don't mind being out but I do want to see my wife and maybe my kids. I hear you get the miles but do you have to clear your hours sitting at a truck stop or at home most of the time? I am getting my license myself but I want to find a company I can stay at for a while.
How long out?

You clear/restart your hours where ever you run out of hours. Good time management practices come into play here. Others may give you good advice on companies, but need to know which state & city you live in.
TRKRSHONEY Thanks this. -
I am in Houston. I will go and listen to the pitch. I am weighing LTL or this.

What's a reset? LOL... last time I had a reset that wasn't at home or on the yard was during hurricane Sandy.
Like Chinatown said... it's all about time management. -
OTR means being anywhere and everywhere. You will reset at home very rarely.
Most LTL companies don't hire rookies. Most new drivers have to gain experience first. That is where the training companies come in. Pick any of them...they are a starting point.
Yes, some of us find a home here, but most move on. It's the nature of the beast.
I spoke with an O/O last night. He has been with Stevens 6 years. Started as a company driver, went to lease shortly after being solo, then bought his truck. His last truck payment will be in the late summer.
He told me, "Stevens taught me how to be a trucker. First how to drive, then how to be a businessman, and finally taught me how to be an owner. When my contract is up, I'll move on. But I wouldn't and couldn't be here if I hadn't started there."
He's not disappointed in Stevens. He is glad they taught him how to be successful. Some people want to learn to be a driver. Some want to learn how to be an O/O.
Stevens can train you how to do any of those from start to finish. How far do you want to go?
But you can count on moving on somewhere in your pathway.TRKRSHONEY and Corporal_Clegg Thank this. -
